European Super League

Talking to an American on the phone this afternoon about all this .. he wanted to know what I thought of the fact that the New York Yankees will play the ‘world champion’ Tampa Bay Rays far more times this season (apparently 19) than Bayern Munich have played Barcelona in their entire history. Of course I said stuff about different games and the importance of domestic competition.. but I think it’s a bit of an illustration of why this is not going away.

"Josh Kroenke says if Arsenal are invited to join a Super League again, they will consult with fans first."

So if arse fans are OK with something that'll benefit their club, it's OK?
Once a caaant, always a caaant.

The Super League has not gone away. What stopped it this time was the complete incompetence of the participants, exemplified by having the lunatic Real Madrid president lead and front it. The changes to the Champions league format agreed only this week were driven by fear of historically big clubs breaking away. The stuff in there that would allow the likes of Arsenal ffs to qualify is just the tip of the iceberg. Champions league currently involves 125 games, the new format is 225. Is that what the fans want ?

I do not expect nor would want us to be crowned PL champions but it would be nice if UEFA threw the cabal out of next season's Champions league. Remember how English clubs as a whole were thrown out for five years folloeing Heysel. Not that it made any difference to the Scallies, still putting bricks through the windows of buses. And they wonder why folk don't like them.

I think there’s a very real chance Arsenal will finish in the bottom half of the league this season.

Since finishing second behind those cowboys from the East Midlands that we all love, they’ve finished 5th, 6th, 5th again, 8th and whatever this season brings.

That they are even playing in Europe this season is a bit of a fluke, they will have no European tour next season.

I hope they slip away into the mix of mid table teams for a sustained period. They will be the example to the BCEC’s that times can change.
