European Super League

Not so sure Filbo. This is long term damage for these clubs, it's not going to be swept under the carpet for at least another generation imo.
When you consider what we still get accused of from nearly 20 years ago, then this debacle is off the Richter scale compared to our shenanigans.
This lot were prepared to sink the game, screw the fans, and disregard the fantastic history of the sport. It's a watershed moment and the authorities should now take steps to ensure the rules and regs provide punishments so severe that they can't contemplate it again.
I know they won't, but now these clubs have been shamed and are in disgrace they should scrap the historic coefficient bollox. The BCC are suddenly weak and this is the time to put them back in their boxes.

Have you read the BCCs statements? Half of 'em can't even be bothered to hide the fact that although the scheming might have ceased for a day or two in public, they have no intention of being cowed for a second longer than they think they can get away with.
UEFA will keep the coefficient bollocks too, and I suspect the reduced values at the next TV rights auction will see this start to reappear...

There has to be some kind of sanction for all 6 so they think twice about doing something similar in the future. They have brought the game into disrepute and they need to be punished for that.

I’ll be as furious if this is all brushed under the carpet as the initial announcement.

That is one of the wankiest posts I've ever seen on here.
Fucking hell – I mean. You really don't see the world in a normal way, do you?
You have to find a punishment that deals with the owners and not the players or fans hard to do yes but there must be a way.

The sychophants and bootlickers in the media are already sewing the redemption seeds for this lot. They're players in the game and can't be seen to bite the hand that feeds them. It's all hollow words, this time next week, Rodney, we'll be told it never happened.

Am I right or wrong in saying that this coefficient thing means a BCC who finished 6th 7th or even 15th overides small club who finished 5th to gain qualification for like extra wild card entries into CL.
If small club finishes 3rd or 4th, then qualification can't be denied, but clubs outside the top 4 would miss out in favour of a BCC who have had a poor season.?

Don't think for a second this has gone away. There are tens of millions in China / US etc who will pay a dollar to watch Man Utd vs Real Madrid but are not interested to watch Man Utd vs West Brom or Real Madrid vs Club Brugge. There is an obvious 'commercial logic' to the ESL teams playing each other more frequently .. while that potential to make money exists someone will be trying to find a way to exploit it. The current outrage has stopped the notion of 'automatic' qualification for a bit .. but give it another 18 months and something will be back. In the 'shortish' term I think the losers will be the teams who just get to the Champions League group stages in the Autumn (clubs from Holland, Portugal, some East Europe etc), the ESL money men think those games are a waste of time. But the gradual drift away from the domestic leagues is inevitable unless someone does something fundamental to even up the resources available to clubs. In England it is bad enough .. but it is unsustainable that PSG 'compete' with teams like Lorient or Barcelona with Elche.

Just for starters...

In a statement, the European Super League said: "Given the current circumstances we shall reconsider the most appropriate steps to reshape the project, always having in mind our goals of offering fans the best experience possible while enhancing solidarity payments for the entire football community."

"Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure put on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations," the ESL said on Wednesday, adding it was "convinced that the current status quo of European football needs to change".

In an interview with Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli said the remaining clubs will "press ahead" and the project still had "a 100% chance of being a success".,

"Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is insisting on the idea of keeping the group together to push for change," says Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

For needs to change read needs to pump more money into my bank account.

If the business model was years of Man U playing Real Madrid 4 times a year and a far eastern audience subscribing to that for more than a couple of seasons then they were deluded. The staleness of the content as entertainment is baked into the proposal.

I suppose these clubs operating on a sound financial basis is out of the question. Anybody normal would first off try to reduce costs before trying to piss off most of you regular customers and then make sure your product is what everybody wants

Time for a proper FFP investigation into all of them.

Real Madrid are massively in debt and they have a great stadium that’s pretty much full every week yet they feel the need to spend millions to develop it further, add a roof, introduce technology in each corner of the ground to make it one of the greatest stadiums in world football.

Why spend the money if they’re already millions in debt? It makes no sense to me.

But it's the owners at fault not the manager, players or fans. They haven't done anything wrong and that would be punishing them
When Heysel happened EVERY English club was affected for five years. We (as a country not us personally) were punished for a set of fans. Works both ways.

You are right, it stinks

I'm not so sure – is it like that? I read somewhere that the BCC would need to qualify for one of the lesser UEFA comps in order to be upgraded to the CL. That BCC would be in addition to the BCCs and non-BCCs who qualify legitimately.
For now...

I'd say spurtz are probably one of the least fucked. When crowds return, their key asset oozes cash out of every seat, they've got the NFL and big gigs as diversification, a big Gov loan at a next to no interest rate, few players on stupid money, a few truly valuable players, and a mean little fucker running things.
Hurts to type that, mind...

If history is anything to go by, the extra money generated by the ESL would eventually end up in the pockets of the players, agents and owners

what will be the plan then?

It won't happen but I would love to see them all relegated to league 2.
When Rangers in Scotland reformed and were put in their 4th tier it was a massive boost to those lower league clubs.
Given that these owners have no respect for the grassroots clubs who have a constant struggle, it would be a fitting punishment to give the league 2 clubs and then league 1 a financial boost by making them play them.
Plus the fact whilst the BCC make their way back to the Prem, we can have 3 seasons of great competitive football where the title is up for grabs rather than having the usual domination.
That would also give at least 4-5 years of their coefficients being battered, helping to wipeout the unfair advantage that they are set to enjoy.
Fantasy, but it would be good imo
