German World Cup Winner 1974 (unused sub in the final)

German World Cup 3rd 1970
66 caps for Germany between 1965 and 1974

Uncompromising defender, heart on his sleeve player, nickname "Eisenfuß" (Iron Foot). Allegedly, one of the very few defenders Gerd Müller was scared of.

Born in Mönchengladbach but played for Werder Bremen from the age of 21 until the end of his career and stayed with them afterwards in various capacities.

Suffered from dementia (!) for quite a few years. Passed away on 22 June 2023 at 79 years of age.

One of the greats. RIP.
Can still close my eyes and reel off that fantastic West German squad from ‘66.
Beckenbauer, Hottges, Haller, Tilkowski, Emmerich, Overath, Underath, Weber, Sailor, Jigsaw, Edison, Lighthouse, Chicory and Tip. What a line up. What a game.

Ah those were the days:

How about the 1970 Brazil squad? Pele, Tostao, Jairzinho, Scenario, Subuteo.

Or Holland ‘74. Cruyff, Neeskens, Wim Van Hanegem, Kenning Van Rental, Rensenbrink, Kitchensink, Jourfeetstink.

Names to conjure with.!!
