Japans currency , the Yen is at historically low levels. Well over 200 yen to the pound and 160 to the dollar.

There are 9 million empty abandoned properties across Japan at absolute bargain prices.

The language is obviously tough at over 2200 characters.

Natural disasters like earthquakes and typhoons.

You can stay in Japan on a tourist visa up to 180 days , 90 days across two separate stays in a 12 month period.

You can buy property without needing a permanent resident visa.

Any input ?

A friend of mine married a Japanese woman and has a bar in one of the cities over there. Apparently the language is not super difficult to learn but hard to write. Its next on my list but if you go during the cherry blossom season its a lot more expensive.
 
It's an experience. You have to like people though and be open to other cultures. It can at times feel very crowded and claustrophobic, but the people are generally incredibly polite, helpful and the cities are clean.

There are more people living in greater Tokyo than in the whole of Canada.
