They did what every other club has done or tried to do since the leagues formed 150 ish years ago - get a rich owner and screw the opposition by buying and paying the best players.

The only reason it is now considered cheating is that some new rules were introduced mainly to protect the big clubs (and Man City were not considered to be one of them at the time) and stop smaller clubs getting rich owners and challenging them (hello Newcastle United).

It is all hypocrisy, double standards and corruption.

No its since the big clubs tried to form a super league because they thought they were too big to plays against lesser outfits
Greed honest to goodness greed and that draws corruption.

The Premier League has a hell of a lot to answer for regarding their running of that division

And like some modern day Robin Hood once they broke the stranglehold looked to rob from the rich to give to the poor opening up Premier League Football to clubs of any size.

So, yes. Double standards. Theirs.

I think you will find that players wages between clubs in the first division in the 50s 60s and 70s did not vary much even after the maximum wage was lifted. Clubs made most of their money by gate money so bigger crowd was main way to get more cash. The first bad thing was when home club kept all the gate money.

The BCCs never intended to leave the PL, they would have had two squads, one for the PL and one for the Super League.

And the new "offer" from the prem makes that even worse. It's time for the FA to make a stand.

I see Pulis is complaining and saying that Stoke should be awarded the 2011 FA Cup. I can understand if Man C had their names removed but giving it to Stoke would be crazy. They didn't win it and whose to say they would even have made the final let alone win it if Man City weren't there or hadn't cheated? They'd have had to beat someone else, even if they made it to the finals.

This is the problem with awarding anyone else any of the titles. It's not just 1 game in isolation. Man City cheated everyone.

This will take years to sort out.
whether they get auto demoted or a large pts deduction that relegates them, after that individual clubs will file loss of earnings claims against them. and then appeal after appeal.
they still need to sort out the regulations.
4 bodies compete against each other in english football FA, EFL, PL, and PFA = bad. and UEFA have diff rules too.
if you want to protect clubs from going bust then have simple FFP rules with no write offs the same across all 4 pro divisions.
if you want to stop clubs buying the league then have a transfer spending cap that has nothing to do with turnover.
Every wrinkle you add can be exploited by lawyers. keep it simple stupid.

The implications are mad. I just read that Blackpool should have stayed up in 2009-10

It's a right pickle, the proverbial can of worms opened. Any kind of points deduction (leading to relegation or otherwise) will kick off years worth of litigation as clubs scramble for dosh, exposing further what a cesspit the football business is. It's not about justice, it's about money. The precedent has been set. All brought about by the imposition of ill-thought, knee-jerk rules (FFP etc)

What a frikkin' state; punishment constrained by the implications, the shit storm it'd kick up. It can only be a fine, justified by saying it's a financial crime so a financial punishment. Man City will make like Face in Quadrophenia and get the cheque book out.

It ain't right, of course it's not, but wtf has that got to do with it.

Edit: "any kind of points deduction" OR retrospective stripping of titles and/or positions.

I'll have to pay to get the edit feature.

My thinking and it is mine the Premier league is just as guilty for prolonging the agonies of clubs involved and especially the fans who basically have been pissed on from a great height by the league.
I dont blame Man City over greatly as if you can get away with your scam for so long then you milk it. The were too many blind eyes that saw nothing guilty unless theres more than meets the eye with the League

Is there actual fraudulent behaviour involved, or simply breaches of footballs regs? If so, any word of charges being filed with the SFO or whoever?
