Off to Swansea for the season on loan. For the player, his leaving makes little sense to me given his likely game time with us (assuming he actually played well) versus the Championship. Half expect him to be sold in 2-3 years for £20m. Look forward to the percentage sell-on fee.
 
Good move for the lad into a decent side
Don’t think there is any sell on clause that’s why we got £7m more than Arsenal offered

I think it's understandable. You're 17 and you love football. You can be associated with a division 3 team where you may get matches or you can go to one of the world's BIG teams, where you get paid more and can say "I was a BIG TEAM player" and dream of winning trophies and playing in the champion's league.

If it works out he could be one of the world's greats, if it doesn't, there will be other prem/championship teams who are willing to buy him and play him.

From his point of view it makes sense.

It's the same for page and hutchinson and Motsi and all the others.

Or the likely reality is he doesn't fulfil his potential, and like hundreds of hopefuls before him, fades into obscurity having peaked too soon. The football world is littered with them. To be honest, he seemed very much a one-trick pony who got sussed out very quickly by successive opponents. But having said that, I hope he does go on to have a good career, though.

This seems a fair summary. There's absolutely nothing in circulation so far to suggest that he'll ever be world-class, let alone a great. If LCFC weren't so utterly dis-functional, there could be an argument that they played a proper blinder by contributing to the hype, inc giving him the early PL debut, and letting him go before the cat was out of the bag in return for a useful fee.

I have waver on ignore but I'm surprised at this attitude towards a teenager.

A school kid and he was representing LCFC in the championship, regularly. The kid is/was a sensation for his age and teams thought he was worth an 8 figure transfer fee. Seems to be either jealously or stupidity to denigrate the lad.

However, you unsurprisingly missed my point, Monga was criticized for leaving us and going to Man City and I postulated why a 17 year old football mad kid will always make that decision. A World-renowned club, who play on the big stage, over a 3rd division team, who are unlikely to see European football again in my lifetime (and Monga's playing career).

Actually history tells you going to a famous outfit is fraught with danger, least of all is money ........worst of all is your continued advancement of your capabilities and the shaping of it through coaching, all can be undone very quickly without the direction
being suitable to your abilities

And when has that stopped a 16/17 year old. At that age we all think we are the one.

Turning Man city down and staying at a third division club in disarray would have shown a lack of judgement. He can play in League 1 in 10 years time, if his career takes a Danny Drinkwater nosedive.
 
One further question is how often do the really top talent at self styled big six go out on loan at a young age? Rashford, Foden, Ngomoha, Dowman level of good? (Would add Joachin and Heskey from our youth to this list.)

Is this decision an indication that Monga has potential but is not close to the first team but is as a minimum a part of the plan to hoover up as much young talent as possible to generate future transfer value whilst retaining an option on the upside.

I think Beckham had a loan spell at Preston?
 
Harry Kane had three spells out on loan. Millwall, Norwich and us. Can barely remember him though. I remember one game where he played (sub?) on the left wing. Even the game at Watford when he was on the bench with Vardy and Drinky, I dont remember wishing for him to come on.

Off topic somewhat, but why do you spend all your time on a discussion forum and yet put folk on ignore?
You say you're a professor; do you put your students on ignore?
What about friends and family? Are they all on ignore? Very bizarre.

I put people on ignore for my mental health, you think that's the wrong thing to do?

Same reason I dumped twitter years ago and don't even go near some places.

I put people on ignore who follow me around the board making facile comments.
I put people on ignore who simply repeat the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
I put people on ignore so that the rest of the readers don't have to read the childish back and forth I would get into with some people.

Do you understand how a university works?
Sure I ignore family, you must be a saint not to.
Friends, I have no friends on ignore, the reasons for that must be pretty obvious.

As you say it's a discussion board, the people I put on ignore have gone past any hope of "discussion" with me.

Sorry that I don't live up to your standards or follow the same ethics as you on a discussion forum that I choose to be on.

One of the things that make the roof great are the varying difference of opinions, reading what other people think & weighing them up against your own beliefs/ideals.
If I stated putting certain posters on ignore because they sometimes talk (in my opinion) bollocks it would make the roof a far less interesting message board.

That's fair enough and your choice, you are a likeable poster.

I've not been here long but I've heard all that I want to from pen2, Pen4, everton carr and foxinessex. Waver & essington are on ignore as the discussions had finished and just silliness entailed. I don't have anyone else on ignore at the moment as I am willing to read what they say and think it over, that's why I reply because I've read and thought it over.

If you want to read everton carr, go ahead, you are a stronger and more understanding man than I.
