So they boo’d ‘The Knee’ last night

The only people conflating the two are people like yourself.
That is probably correct. Pretty much any sensible person who is not of the hard left, 'progressive' persuasion.

But Club book, it really is that simple, I think that the conflation is an obvious and quite deliberate political statement, you do not.

This is the whole point. Does anybody think these millionaire footballers are taking the knee because they aspire to live in a Marxist state in which their wages would be a fraction of what they are now? Or that that actually want to defund the police, putting their families and homes at greater risk of robbery, kidnap, etc? They've said over and over and over again that the gesture is a simple show of solidarity with their black teammates. Why is it so difficult to take them at their word and accept that it's nothing to do with left-wing politics?

It is not my place to 'deem' what others find acceptable or not. My personal view is that the massage of anti-racism which we would all (I think) support has been deliberately conflated with support for a hard left political organisation that itself supports violence and racism.

I find that unacceptable, I simply will not have it. Other views are available.
Nonsense .
Some people conflate Remembrance Day with triumphal flag waving . Doesn’t mean we should stop it or they aren’t arseholes .

Morning, If I thought for one instance that this was being driven by the players, I might have some sympathy for that view point.

But that is not the case, it is being driven by activists who do have the agenda you describe.

There are a fair number of people who have issues with Rememberence Sunday, some with genuinely good reason. I have sympathy in some cases, not in others.

but we are specifically talking about footballers, kneeling for 5 secs before a match. if that is "the wrong way", then what way would you deem acceptable? i can't think of a less triggering way for a footballer to use their platform.
The point I thought I was making is that taking the knee is now something that is "just done". It has no impact just like a repetitive advert on the TV, we all know it's on but no one actually sees it.

It isn't for me to decide what is or isn't acceptable but if you want to take Joe Public with you the message has to be fresh.

Foxy. Remembrance day is once a year not 6 times a week, the two can't be compared
Not sure that’s relevant . Minutes silence v 5 seconds kneeling ? Surely it’s the principle not the time involved ?

Repeating something often just dilutes the impact, if we had 2 minutes silence at every game the less intelligent would react adversely

I can't imagine many footballers being 'forced' to take a knee if they don't want to. you only have to listen to people like troy Deeney talking about the motives behind to understand it further. But you choose not to as you have decided what it's all about, rather than listen to people's own opinions and experiences.

True, but a two minutes' silence requires something of the crowd. The players taking the knee for a few seconds requires nothing from the crowd. If you want to applaud it, great; if not, that's fine too. It's over before you know it. I just can't understand why some people are so sensitive and easily-triggered that they can't keep their mouth shut for a few seconds while the players make a small gesture of solidarity with each other.

No one is directly forcing anyone, peer pressure and contract obligations will provide the motivations.

A few players like Toni, Zaha and Deeney have made their views known and I respect that, I have absolutely no issue with people making a stand against racism, I would and will stand with them.

But to name the action after a violent and racist organisation, use the acronym BLM, the clenched fist black power salute and the 'taking the knee' gesture irrevocably linked to a violent criminal is deliberately provocative and I will not support it.

You are free to make up your own minds.

Fine but why boo ?
Just Don’t applaud if you don’t like it ?
That’s the point here surely ?

Morning FG,

I guess it depends on how strongly you feel, if you do genuinely feel that it is wrong, it is one of the few ways you can make that point.

Personally if that was going on under 'normal' circumstance, I would probably not take my seat until after it was done.

I think the more people boo the knee, the longer it will stays.

Which would be a shame, because I'm bored of it now.

If more black people took on the mantra that BLM; we would be in a much better world.

Wow.

I don't think I would get away with saying that...

Being the resident Nazi and all that...

Don’t fall into the mantra of black on black crime. That’s for racists, you’re better than that.
Not heard the term white on white crime.
The BLM movement is an establishment tool to divide us where by the real Black Lives Matter is aimed at the establishment.

Complete gibberish.

Straight out of Life of Brian

There isn't a WLM, that has gained any traction though. Thankfully...

To mention BOB crime is in no way racist. It is a fact.

People can't hide behind a BLM banner, with a shiv in their hand.

You think black people kill black people because they are black?
Because if that is the case I would agree black on black crime needs addressing.

Has someone hacked your account?

Yes white lives matter, but they're not the ones suffering discrimination on the same scale as black people.

BOB crime is an issue, partly because of gang-related crime, but it's a diversion tactic and I'm surprised you've fallen for it.

I've not fallen for anything?

It is mostly black people that kill black people. Which would suggest to those perpetrators; that BLM isn't true.

This just gets swept under the carpet, but it is a fact.

I'm not suggesting that black people kill other black people, because of their skin colour.

But they do disregard the BLM mantra. By their actions.

As to whether white people suffer discrimination. Well of course they do. In huge numbers. The Establishment isn't on the side of the working class, council estate kid.

All oppressed people should unite. Not about skin colour. But about being treated unfairly by those in charge. BLM just divides and is full of contradiction.

BoB crime is a straw man because they might do it but they don't get away with it.
The police do it and get away with it, again and again.
BLM is about historic institutionalized racism and how it manifests itself in daily life.
your mention of BoB crime is the classic 'if we can't fix all of it at once, let's not fix any of it', response to any social problem.
By that logic we should roll back every car safety feature introduced over the last 50 years because people still die in car accidents.
It's a ludicrous reason not to do something.
