Brexit and fishing rights.

In a sense there is a balance here. Leave won, but fairly narrowly, we now have a situation where we are half in, half out of the eu.

Neither leave nor remain can be happy with the outcome, so pretty much everyone is pissed off.

Life in the 21st century!

The provocative banter stems from posters on both sides unwilling to see fault with their opinions.
Can't see that changing because certain characters on here are too entrenched.
On the contrary, I accepted the result.

What that didn’t mean however, was simply accepting the outcome of all that because I’m not a Leave voter.

Surely all voters (Leave or Remain) should be holding the politicians that promised a fantastic deal for the country to account?

If it gets boiled down to a “We won, you lost, get over it” comment (as some politicians have been heard to say, never mind the general public), then unfortunately we’ve all been conned.

And when I suggested no-one was happy I was shot down...

Time will tell regarding the success or failure of leaving.
At the moment we are as you say in-between, but further down the line it will be up to us if we want to be closer or further away from the EU. The decision is in our hands. Future elections will probably be decided on what direction we are offered.

It's the constant whining that ' leave ' voters were conned and got it wrong by remain voters that provokes the 'get over it' comment.
When you add in the ' it's what you voted for ' comment constantly being trailed out, then is it any surprise that people react ?
Anyway have a free pop because I am off to do something better with my time, than keep going over something that we can all agree to disagree on.
And I will just say at least the conversation stayed civilised, better than the usual trading of insults.
Kudos for that😁

For the record, nor do I think the EU is a perfect organisation - but as with so many things, I’m a firm believer in affecting change for the better when you’re part of something, rather than extricating ourselves from it & particularly in the manner we have.

One thing we can be absolutely sure of, is that Johnson, Rees-Mogg & all those in charge of things right now, will not face the ramifications of their actions.

And remain voters are also constantly told that we should have no further say in the matter, because we didn’t vote Leave.

I’m sure you can see how daft that looks at the same time as feeling you’ve had a ‘pop at’.

Sadly that is the way of 'direct' democracy.

It was presented as an either/or, no shades of grey decision, though, to be fair, it is difficult to see how else it could have been done.

So sad that folk actually think career politicians with headlines to grab know more about how to run schools / hospitals / businesses / security forces than teachers / doctors business owners and police officers .
Until that changes we are stuffed
Love this! :ROFLMAO:

Just heard the head of British fisheries on The Today programme this morning moaning big time that the deal makes them much worse off and Gove wheeled out saying it wouldn't .Brexit comedy Gold .

On fish, the issue is between pelagic (which UK fishermen have a surplus in) and non-pelagic (which is where the money is and the UK had a meagre share). The UK secured a much bigger share of non-pelagic which will give a boost to UK fishermen from Day 1. Also, the deal tapers to full control of our waters much faster than the EU wanted - they wanted 14 years, it's closer to the UK's three.

Also, there is no UK fishing fleet capable of landing a bigger share - yet. The French will need to catch it for us for the time being. The massive difference is from January 1st - they pay for that privilege, they are our waters.

It's all gone quiet lads? How many of you were praying for it all to go tits up? And how many of you will pile in and try to convince yourselves it HAS gone tits up? Dry those tears. Time to move on.

I bet all those evil sinister financiers who brainwashed 17.4 million people into voting leave then bet trillions on a No Deal Brexit, using mumblemumbleitscomplicated mechanisms, which was their secret objective all along are kicking themselves now.

Still looking through the agreement and various assessments of it.

It does, rather as expected, look like the expected sell out.

Northern Ireland now seems to be a colony of the eu, economically if not politically.
Gibralter being brought into Shengen, effectively giving Spain free access,
The eu still have the rights to a substantial amount of our fish for the next 5+ years.
The 'level playing field' will heavily impact out trade, especially with non eu countries.
We remain, under the control of the ECJ, though it will be called something else. (EuJust?)
We continue to pay the eu huge sums of money including large contributions for military and security (The EU Army that doesn't exist).

Quite probably more nasties to come, involving ECHR, financial services, travel arrangements for example,
