Critical Thinking

leave emotion and pre conceived ideas out !

You will then get closer to the truths, this is the divide on here and in general. The ones with this ability are on one side and the ones who can't get jabbed etc.

This is why some will never know the truth and injure themselves and families as a result.

I've been trying to figure out what makes people close off to obvious lies and even promote them, while others see right through them, this is it. If you can't do this you will always let others tell you what to do because you don't have this ability to solve problems. The longer you are in education the more difficult it is to think critically, long term education as been described by experts as prolonging childhood.

I had a row with my cousin whom I'm quite close too, hes not a fool but he can't work things out even when it smacks him in the face and gets shirty when hes faced with evidence that doesn't suit is way of thinking. He can't admit hes wrong, he can't win arguments, he just gets frustrated. I wasn't happy with him to be honest but now l realise that he just doesn't have the ability to think critically, its like a disability in a way as l know hes not thick but he appears to be through lack of understanding of logic.

They’ve been groomed. They’ve put their trust in a system that think loves them as keep making excuses after each black eye and bloody nose. Boris has promised us everything’s ok so it’s easier to go along with it rather than question it.
Feelings of worthlessness but they’re told that they are brave little soldiers for getting jabbed up so they latch on to those words.
Those of a stronger mind can see how feeble they are but you’ve got to remember it’s not their fault.
Maybe counselling is the answer. But they do need help not ridicule.

totally agree with all that !

l did it myself in a way recently (well 3 1/2 years ago to be honest). I left a doctors who had just told me it was ok, l knew it wasn't, and l knew l did something l don't normally do and accepted something that l felt was wrong, but l took the easy option of trusting "the" system even though l knew otherwise.

It grinds with me because l never ever do that, but l ignored my instincts to feel safe (falsely).

You've possibly missed out a fundamental aspect of critical thinking.

That is to critically assess your own assumptions, beliefs and values. Have some self-doubt.

If you subscribe to a them and us philosophy, then you have no critical thinking skills whatsoever.

Me. I don't trust either side of any argument, or even myself. If you fall into any belief, without question - then you have fallen.

But don't worry. We all fail at it...

I'm not writing a book on it, I'm stating the two main factors. No one can 100% critical think as we have a life time of pre-concieved ideas to fight but we can do our best, some never try !

Your assumptions should be thought about, as a cross reference, after you've tried to ignore them, to see if they have had much impact on your conclusions.

You have to put your assumptions to one side if you can, its not black or white but its important to try if you want the answers.. Clif High's talks are pretty good. I think I've defined the differences to the factions in this, my guess is your a talker not a doer, not meant to insult, just an opinion regarding your posts, l could be wrong !

Fair enough bnet.

That all makes good sense, about your interpretation of critical thinking.

No idea where you get your talker vs. doer thing from?

It's not correct...

Rational discussion, on here? I must be in a parallel universe... ;)

One thing I will add to this is the ability to understand and interpret your own experiences and contrast those with what you are being told and what is considered to be the consensus. Confront your own assumptions in the same way that you question the assumptions of other.

Problem solving is a big issue for many people, rational, logical thought processes are beyond them as they simply do not have the skills and, sadly, are not interested in acquiring them.

One thing clearly illustrated on here by several, is that radicalisation of certain receptive individuals is far easier to achieve in the poorly educated . Failure to discern between fact and fantasy is a well recognised stage .
Our original poster left the real world some time ago .

I hear vaccines for the healthy under 16s have not been recommended . Presumably Thickie will now suggest that Boris has done this so will therefore criticise those who accept this without question ?

The reality being of course in the real world, Boris’ approval or otherwise of covid precautions to 99% of us, is irrelevant . Like the majority of sentient human beings we look at the published data and creditable research and make our own decisions. Dickie and his ilk adopt set, immovable prejudices largely gleaned from politically motivated nonsense on the darker corners of the internet.

Incidentally for those whose sole purpose on the board is seemingly to second guess my thoughts , I am happy with this . The data has been examined and the risk for this age group of serious illness, while apparent , clearly is small .
I was in favour of vaccinating but as the evidence has now been evaluated by folks who know far more than me I change my mind.
It will probably mean more infections passed to the elderly but if they are vaccinated most will be fine .
