I suspect the rather short 2.5 yr contract is designed to work both ways - won't cost us so much to bin him off if we have to, whereas if he keeps us up, and a better club comes calling in the summer, then the compensation payment to us would be that much less.

I would hope we aren't writing any new contracts, for players or coaching staff, without a significant relegation clause that reduces salaries, but who knows
