Not saying there isn't but it's worth a debate. I reasons you gave as to why you need a birth certificate are all valied reasons but every one is to make things introduced by society easier to obtain.
Do you see where I'm coming from?
Introduce a regulation which is easy to comply with as long as you've complied to other regulations.
 
I've used birth certificates to trace my family tree. I'm all for them.

I've also ordered myself a sheep pen.

Always fancied doing that (not ordering a sheep pen) was gonna try the DNA thing too but not sure who they send the info to.
My mother was adopted I believe, during the 2nd world war. Biological grandmother was someone who got up the duff from either a yank or Canadian. Would be interesting to find out about my blood lines.
Back in the day there wasn't much in the way of adoption regulations so my grandmother just took my mother and kept her. (I'm sure it wasn't as simple as that but you know what I mean.

Worth doing IMHO. Try to rise above the state control paranoia. Ignore the 5% Irish, 42.3% Viking bollocks. I got lucky as I had a link with someone else's DNA and found out who my paternal grandfather was, although my dad never knew.

Me old mans a bogtrotter so I guess it'll be influenced by that, I might just get one done for my birthday
 
i don't know enough about how companies pay roll works, but surely most companies would need your NI number before adding you to payroll? how else would you get paid?
(obviously i'm not talking about every employer, or cash in hand type payments...)
