If you could live one place in Leicester/Leics..

I remember it as well. Took the old girl 20 minutes to serve two drinks. Had to blow the dust off the top of a bottle of tonic, then couldn’t work the money out.
Did it have a name, I wonder?
I have a feeling that one time i was in there, the woman's son was sitting in the corner. 70-odd, if he was a day...

Filbo, that reminds me of a former pub further eastwards just off the A47.
The Gate Inn at Bisbrooke. Now a private dwelling. You had to pour your own pint whilst the old dear who ran the place got on with her knitting next to the fireplace.

I'm sure I vaguely recall a really strange 'pub' somewhere between the A47 and Tilton – more like a front room in a house? Run by some ancient old bird? Early '80's. Or am I going mad?
There was a pub on the a47 out that way , we went in there a fter a southend trip early 90s , its a bungalow now , fuck knows what it was called
didnt see firenzes post

Yep, I walked in the door and stood looking into the empty lounge thinking "Is this really a pub?" The old dear came down the stairs and greeted me with "what do you want now ?" Sharp exit.

I think you are talking about the Salisbury Arms. It was just past Tilton, down the hill after a hamlet called Halstead. The old lady was called Joan Vickers. They only used the front part of the building, seated about 6 maximum.

I do like Harborough and the surrounding villages. Great transport links to London too.

Alternatively I’d go with somewhere just off Queens Road in Leicester. It’s central enough to walk into town across the park and down New Walk, but with enough going on that you can stay local if you want.

Wasn't this place was it? I have a memory of driving past with my uncle and him telling me it used to be a pub?

Sounds bang on. Cheers! (y)
