Notts Forest away

I lived there for 4 years in the 70s and liked the city centre pubs like the Royal Children, Salutation, Bell Inn plus of course the Trip to Jerusalem. Nearer to the ground there is a big pub on the city side of Trent Bridge and near the cricket ground the Trent Bridge Inn.

The one I was thinking of just over the bridge is called The Brewhouse and Kitchen. Nearby and next to Notts County's ground is the Trent Navigation Inn mentioned by a previous poster.

The Bentinck hotel next to the station sadly now a Starbucks. We had such a warm welcome in there after the 5-1 defeat in December 2010 ish!!!

Thanks for the pubs advice. My lads first visit to the City Ground. We will be on the train so I’m sure the Notts police will give us a warm welcome..

You may be pushed to visit the city centre unless you have plenty of time. Opposite direction from the ground. It is only two stops on the trams though.

For the ground, turn left out of the station. Walk down Arkwright street through the Meadows. Used to be a rough area but all redeveloped during the 70s/80s. Keep straight on for Trent Bridge. Notts County ground on your left. Brings back memories but not of good results.

We rarely lost at Meadow lane, bit different to west bridgford, avoid Poets corner, just in the meadows

Always a good place to end wearnt it Tonga ? Went in after 0.0 draw 1996 it was our last stop before getting train back to Leicester after a day in Nottingham , doors burst open , some lad was obviously being chased , then in came the chasers i.e. forest fans, we got prepared for trouble but he was a Chelsea fan. They’d jumped off on the way back from Sheffield Wednesday I think. He ran out the other door but run back in after spotting a Rastafarian golfer standing by the door , the Chelsea lad then took a club out the Rastafarian golfers bag and swung it like a Lightsaber at the forest lads. Funny as fuck as they backed off , all good entertainment. As we sat there celebrating actually getting a point at forest.🤗 The force was with him … well that’s what we thought till we seen him with a smashed in nose getting his train to London 20 minutes later🤗🤗🤗

A Rastafarian golfer!
I bet he knew where the best green was

My first away trip was to the City Ground in 1965. Very exciting for a 14 year old, going on the train, on my own as I recall, and walking through a strange city to get to the ground. It seemed so big and open, a world away from Filbert Street. I stood on the open Bridgford end to see us lose 2-0 and I remember Chris Crowe scoring at our end.

I was at that game too. I think Hinton scored the other.

VISITING FAN ZONE - THE NEST

Nottingham’s new away supporter fan zone, The Nest, will be open exclusively to away ticket holders from 10am on matchday.

Replacing the former Meadow Lane Sports Bar, The Nest is the closest venue to the City Ground that welcomes away fans and sits directly on the walking route from Nottingham Railway Station to the away end.

This large 1,200-capacity venue offers both indoor and outdoor space, with Sky Sports on Nottingham’s biggest screen, a wide range of alcoholic and soft drinks, and a street food trader to keep you fuelled.

Take a look at what to expect at The Nest HERE.

View the walking route from The Nest to the away end HERE.

Ah. I see they now try to keep Away fans away from Trent Bridge and use a different bridge to cross the river.

That was always the way back after the game and the way the police escorts used. Makes sense to encourage away fans to drink down that way too.

Quite true. I just go way back when strict segregation wasn't necessary. In my time I stood on 3 sides of that ground watching City but not the Trent End.
