I was there and it was a great day.

It just goes to show how limited overs cricket has changed since then.
Essex set something like 220 odd ? from their 55 overs.
County knocked them off with about 3 overs to spare !!!
Nowadays you'd expect teams to be around the 300+ mark from that amount of overs.

On The day itself we were in a bit of bother but if I recall, Gower with an elegant 40+ and Peter Willey with 80 odd and aided by Mark Garnham seen us home.
I recall a brilliant atmosphere at Lords and County fans rejoicing below the pavillion at the end.

Wish I had been!
I was a skint student in Newcastle, so instead managed to find someone with a colour TV and settled in for the day.
With my first tinny at 11, I can't remember a single thing about the game – other than we won, and had to be dragged home.
But I do remember 2024... (y) :)
