The Green Scam

Our train line rails used to last for 30 years plus even on the main lines. The companies now import Chinese steel for the rails which last for half of that time.

But everyone wants cheap nowadays and it is cheap.

Can you point me in the direction of that please. I thought the rolling mills were in Scunthorpe & Workington. Oh yes, we also operate a lot more trains going much faster than we used to.

We no longer produce our own steel. Let that sink in! They’ve put what heavy manufacturing we do have left, at the mercy of China!
There is still a blast furnace in Scunthorpe, the trouble is it produces low grade steel, the money is in Vacuum Arc Remelted steel which is much stronger and therefore lighter and can be used in automotive and aerospace applications. It's also made from scrap steel so it's recycling(we actually import scrap to Bolton) to make this stuff, there is supposed to be one of these being built in Port Talbot next year.

It’s enough to make Jenny Agutter stand at the side of the track waving her petticoats in frustration!

What an incredibly irresponsible thing to say, that would close the Midland Main Line for a week while it was investigated, reported on and repairs to the damaged fence completed

Sheeesh!

I read it a good few years back now. The last time they were talking about closing the steelworks.

Good old Nige on the wrong side of history as usual

Please explain what Brexit has to do with blast furnaces being totally uneconomic.

The steel "industry" is doing as well as any other country
