This practicing defending corners / set pieces for an hour rumour

Wonder how long it will take the penny to drop for rodgers to realise he’s had an hour trying to get a piss poor zonal marking system to work better against an attack who are piss poor at attacking from set pieces.

All this Zonal/Man argument stuff is rubbish. Either/both are fine. It's about organisation and taking responsibility and we are not doing it, everybody is leaving it to everybody else. Nobody is following or attacking the ball which is, ultimately, even more important than following a man.

(I would also add that a Thomas/Mings match up is one that benefits the latter...significantly)

I agree there total mismatch there

You don't if you set up with that stupid zonal shit., its a joke, its only used for managers to try and look clever. It doesn't work. I don't care who uses it, it doesn't work.

I disagree. It can. Not with our lot though but, my point is, I am not convinced that we'd be much better man to man. All over the pitch we get bullied so why would it be different in our own penalty area?

Exactly as a team we are not physical so it won't matter if we man mark or zonal we'll still have the same problems.

l can not find ant excuse whatsoever for our defence, its set up wrong, its weak, and they take no responsibility. There is only one person to blame, the one who picks the team and sets them up. Any other job in the world would find you sacked because you are incompetent. Hes not even tried to change it and its been going on all season.

My mate said if you keep making the same mistakes week after week, its not a mistake its a habit

That's kind of what I was saying so I don't disagree.

Rogers said they have spent hours analysing set piece defending.
Let me save you more feckin hours Brendon.
Next week against Newcastle when they get their first corner fuck their weeks work up by sticking three of our players up top and see how confused they will be and they have put pull four back !

It aint rocket science its feckin basics !!

That would just be suicide.

Really, please explain, surely doing something different is better than doing the same thing week in week out!!!

We are trying but unfortunately whatever we're trying is not working but leaving players up would just leave us more vulnerable if that's possible.

Newcastle will have watched that game today and will target us on set pieces, the way we are defending them is criminal.
Something needs to change so we try anything to stop the rot
To carry on what we are doing is suicide !!!

4 at the back, 3 at the back. Again look at our team we aren't a big team and teams will always cause us problems. Look at the size of Mings and Konsa compared to our defenders.
shut up Daz, this is not the time for being a twat.

All this "mine is bigger than yours" (or in our case the other way around) is a load of self-serving bollocks. As I said before, it's about taking responsibility & organisation. Konsa doesn't win that header so comfortably for the second because he is bigger than Soyuncu, he wins it because the nearest defender to him (Soyuncu) is backpeddling (so not jumping) whilst he can attack the ball. Konsa should not be given the space or the easy header in the first place. David Speedie would have provided more of an obstacle.

As for 4 at the back/3 at the back, that has become a side issue the real question now being: which one is the one most likely to lead us to concede the most set-pieces in or around our box.

Kasper at fault again today Villa weren’t even that good Brendan has to step up and drop him its farcical situation
