This practicing defending corners / set pieces for an hour rumour

No oppossing player should be standing un marked in the six yard box its a gimme!
And not one of the Four players are " goal side " of Watkins its unbelievable and stuff you wouldnt see on Vicky park on a Sunday morning as they would be man marking

Sort the fucker out Rodgers !!

That photo shows exactly what I was on about all afternoon Kasper had two men on him for all free kicks and corners they knew he was vulnerable but as you say
criminal defending, you know Newcastle
Have big strikers so the same will happen whilst we cannot close mark, or even get within earshot of strikers.
But it could have been worse had not AV been so wasteful

A picture is as good as a thousand words. I showed this to Mrs E and asked her to guess who scored. Yes, she guessed correctly.

Isn't the saying that doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome is the definition of madness ? To stick with zonal marking when it obviously doesn't work is indeed madness. I don't really care what he tries at the moment, man to man or leave some forwards up front to reduce the mayhem in our box and give defenders a chance to man mark BUT I want to see an alternative approach

I'm a hater of zonal marking, but maybe in a very good defence and everyone knowing their job and a coach who can implement it, it could work. We actually don't have the ingredients for a start, if ever it was going to work for us. Pig headedness seems to be the problem.

This zonal v man marking is a false argument as most teams now mix them.
Pure man marking was put out of business by the bus queue and anyway just led to a chase round the box with the resulting loss of concentration on the ball. What the pic shows is the current use of four along the goal side of the six yard line which is fine, albeit they are a bit close to Kasper. Mings is adopting the old Harry deeper lying position and using a full back there was the error as few backs excel in the air.
KS is never going to be big enough to join a mix when the ball arrives, so must rely on his main men, none of whom has the physicality to dominate centrally.
I am old enough to remember Shilts who use to say that the box was his and he would organise it as he saw fit. After his day we saw the likes of Walshie, Tags and Matty who looked and played the part. This sort of big man has gone out of fashion a bit now but aerial balls in still exist...

Have to say that at Southampton early last week watching Kasper's warm up he was punching away crosses and venturing outside the six yard box.
What's the point doing that when in reality he stands rooted to his line?
Those shots of our zonal marking v Villa should be pasted up on Rodgers office wall. Pillock.

Other teams use zonal marking but ours don't seem to jump to head away...soyuncu didn't even know who was behind him....I don't know if Thomas was shouting at him to make him aware. But there seems to be a lack of discipline on defending at present.
Another problem for me is everyone back in the area , when we do manage to clear it it comes straight back...we need to leave 2/3 players up to give the oppo something to think about.

I hope this doesn’t come as a shock Daz, but your wrong.
It’s exactly what Thorney says it is, it’s the free kick leading to their equaliser.
My apologies like you say I was wrong. I just looked at the villa players and it looked like they were defending instead of attacking. That picture says a lot it's why Kasper isn't confident with his defence.

Indeed. And as for lack of discipline (and mentioned elsewhere leadership) look too at Villa's first goal. Apart from our keeper not coming to claim the ball from Evans' initial header (well, he came and stopped when he saw Konsa standing there but should have ran through him, any foul and it is Konsa on Kasper for obstruction) - this after giving Wilf a nudge out the way as if to say "it's mine" then stopping thereby compromising Wilf's chances of getting out to Cash - KDH, Barnes & Thomas react like kittens chasing light reflecting from a CD. Barnes was clearly the one in best position to get out to Cash but it was a tough ask, Thomas gets into a reasonable position as a result but then doesn't react when the ball goes the other way, KDH though runs around Benduia & gets into an awful position, taking himself out of the game completely. Soyuncu's reaction to the Evans' header is better, he moves across into the right area... only then to follow the kitten-light example when the header goes back across and ends up marking Evans when the header towards goal comes in (actually standing behind him). Really just panic and more reminiscent of park football.

Those photos above are truly shocking.
How can any football coach possibly survive these photos?
How can any coach or manager explain away whats going on here?

That's the mix of zonal and man-to-man. Thomas is marking Mings but loses him as Mings pushes off him and uses KDH as a block taking Thomas, trying to recover, into Castagne & Evans who are following the ball. It should be Evans' ball... well, he does win it but because he is too busy fighting 2 of our own he gets it all wrong!

It is shocking and has been happening for too long and its took the shambles on Sunday for Rodgers to say he was going to address it!
I couldn't believe my ears when I heard him say " we had looked how Villa set up and where Konsa positions himself but we didnt do our jobs so who he fuck was marking him !!
Its basics of football, its got nothing to do with skill just tactics
Excuse the pun but "the buck stops with buck " !! he needs to sort the feckin mess out as we will all be watching on Sunday !!
