Tielmans

Regarding Tielemans, I think most of us agree that he has had a substandard season. I'd like to hear what he himself has to say about it (if anything).

Is he really unhappy at LCFC, and is his heart no longer in it?
Is he no longer 100% behind Rodgers (rumours of Castagne being unhappy about Praet's ousting might apply to him, too)?
Has he simply had an extended mental low and exhaustion period after both the height and jubilation of his FA Cup stunner and the disappointment of not getting to the CL last season?
Was he too often deployed in a tactically unfavourable position?
All or some of the above?

I guess we won't find out easily but I have not given up hope that he might return to full form next season IF he doesn't leave anyway. The club might prefer to cash in if the right offer comes along, and he is probably also open to a change.

I was a big fan .. I think he is the best passer of the ball (both seeing a pass and executing) we have had since McAllister.

I also don’t buy into this ‘he’s been terrible this season’ story. I thought that he played pretty well in the Autumn (eg: goals vs Brentford & Man U), but something has gone badly wrong since then. Playing too deep is part of it but that has only really happened since Ndidi injury.

Sadly I think he wants to leave, almost certainly driven by our League position. I would make one last attempt at a new contract but if that doesn’t work .. we’ll thanks for the memories Youri. Especially one magic moment!

Wilf's absence has been a big factor. Playmakers are not usually grafters and tacklers,
they rely on others to do that and supply the balls needed for him/them to reward their more physical duties.

He's in contract. The issue is an extension.
I think he will go as he has clearly been stalling to see where we finish the season and, more importantly, the club needs a big sale (and a few lesser ones) to help fund BR's plan for several more players with immediate first team potential.

Arsenal apparently want him and he would be happy to go there, according to John Percy. If it's going to happen, I really hope we agree a deal early and don't have one of those boring protracted battles over the fee.

Thought his enthusiasm for the Arse was conditional on Champions League football, so ………

Setting his sights high then eh.

Are Arsenal that much better than us?

I’m sure they pay a lot more though.
That’s exactly my thoughts. If he’s going to leave us he ought to join a club where he’s playing with better players. Going to Arsenal doesn’t give him that.

Most clubs fitting that description probably won't be interested in him - or if they are, it will be as a squad player at best. If he wants to play regularly he will have to accept playing for a team with a quality of squad not much different to ours.

Being a squad player won’t suit him. We’ve seen when he’s been out for a couple of games it takes him 2 or 3 to get going again. Perhaps he’s better off staying put.

I can't imagine there are many clubs willing to pay £20-25m for a player who they then don't even put in their squad?
He would be a squad player at worst wherever he goes, imho. Or his agent would need shooting.

Ah - yes, you’re right. What I meant was that he would likely be just a squad player at a top club, not a squad player at best. The latter would probably lead to a very awkward phone call with his agent, I agree…

I think most of the top clubs wouldn't want YT because most of them play high tempo football and I can't see that suiting Youri
He has had a mediocre season on previous ones .
I can see him back on the continent which may suit his style better

It's already been both boring and protracted Clapham.
