Up town Top Ranking

Did anyone on here, as an early years teenager go to Top Rank Saturday Mornings.
My first visit was probably at the age of 14. The first time I’d been to a night club.
I remember that first time walking down the stairs from and hearing the Isley Brothers booming out. I was ‘souled’.

wasn't old enough just fot Top Rank, Palais, was it Tuesday night ? went there at 15, but used to go on a Friday and Saturday as well at 15, looked 12. This was big then l think -

We were due to go to see WAR last year in London ... can't remember where though. We had tickets. It was cancelled due to the lead singer being ill (it would also have been pulled due to COVID) and now I believe the band has again disbanded.
This would be good to listen to as well

Have you got tickets for Mowsley ? I wanted to go on the Saturday for the Fatbacks but missed the tickets

I have just posted on another thread about my regret regarding have so many cassettes and when I had my cassette player fitted to my Singer Chamois (a glorified Hillman Imp with a 'fast back' and vinyl roof, Eddie Kendricks Keep on Trucking album was one of the first cassettes I bought along with a Temptations Album ... the one with the 11 minute version of Papa Was a Rollin Stone.

Eddie Kendricks was on the front cover of Blues and Soul, at the time and l had a suit made exactly the same as he wore. I think i've still got the B & S copy.

No ... they had sold out for Saturday and Sunday before we got our act together. I then asked my daughter to sort out tickets for On Blackheath but that's just an online concert (what's the point of that) this year.
I was fortunate to see the Fatback Band at the Roadmender here in Northampton about 4 years ago ... they have still got it. So if you get another opportunity to see them definitely go.

I remember saturday mornings for kids at the Palais...and everyone bunking off school the couple of times Radio 1 Club came to Top Rank...around 1970 ish I reckon.
