What's really worring is ...

The home crowd need to put pressure on the players when they start tippy tapping. I don't mean booing but general moaning to let our players know it is not acceptable.

It's all copied from the Guardiola hand book. He once explained that it was done to 'move the opposition around'.
Problem is it doesn't. I think DA is following orders as they don't trust his distribution, after Wolves no wonder...

Yeah that will help make them nervous so they make a mistake. Why not be patient and let the players handle it.

We have now given the whole of the division the template of how easy it is to beat us !

We have to stop this dillying about with short square passing between our 2 centre backs ..ffs !
You can only stop that if the midfield or forwards give you a pass as an option.

West Ham were happy to let us have the ball in our own half. Their refusal to press high up the pitch meant that no obvious gaps appeared in their half for us to exploit. When that happens, you need players in defence who can pass with extreme accuracy in order to make headway into the opposition half. Unfortunately, Amartey can't do that and Soyuncu's confidence is shot to pieces, so they were probably both told to avoid taking risks, hence they ended up passing it back and forth between themselves for extended periods. It just shows how much difference a quality, ball-playing CB can make to the whole team.

A temporary solution while Evans, Fofana and Vestergaard are injured would be to do as HPF says and lump it long. But that's just now how we play under Rodgers, so for the time being we're stuck with defenders who simply can't execute a key part of our game plan.

"I don't mean booing but general moaning to let our players know it is not acceptable." An interesting concept Algar. Can you (or anyone else) enlighten us as to those who wish to try it should go about this cunning psychological ploy and how it could be best conveyed to the underperforming players?

It's a brilliant plan, isn't it? The players will have practised a game plan all week and will go out onto the pitch with clear instructions from the manager. But if the crowd thinks they're taking too long with the ball, we should verbally pressure them to abandon the plan and hoof it up the pitch instead. Yep, we'll be top of the league in no time...

You can't hoof it long if there is no space in front of your front men. And long balls should favour defenders who are facing play.
As outfoxed says, midfielders need to offer themselves, it gives an option and hopefully pulls their back line up a bit.
But it is more than infuriating to us as spectators like batsmen blocking for ages. Even more so if we are behind..

What West Ham did particularly well was almost man mark Youri so there was no forward link between the back 2 and midfield. They also closed down HB so there was no outlet there either. They wereo bothered about closing down the other wing as it was Perez and they knew he was useless. Plus Maddison was too busy la di da-ing to make any forward impact which didn’t help. Easy street

Give him some credit, the way he ran with the ball in the second half from the edge of his box deep into there midfield was a highlight of the night.

Some of you lot should go to a Newcastle home match and listen to their crowd. Nobody mentioned about hoofing anything, it is just the pace that I think is not acceptable and let's face it it just doesn't work. We are not Man City because we don't have the players.

That's where you need someone like Nacho who can drop deep and receive the ball.

Perhaps we need Boycott & Tavare at the back then.
