A Proper Roofer's Holiday

Went across to Barmouth (Iwan Roberts territory I was told) for a few days - stayed in Eric Steel's (remember him?) guest house, Wavecrest on Marine Parade
Him and his smashing Mrs did us proud - treated us like family.
Great room with stunning views across the estuary.
Their dog took us out for a very decent pub meal and then an equally decent pub crawl.
Some cracking restaurants to try out as well.
Pity it pissed down a fair bit - but it is in Wales - that's what they do!
Seriously though its a very interesting place in a spectacular part of the world.
And you get a chance to moan to the owner about being relegated.
Thanks for your kind words, Soho. It was a blast.
Edit: Just been having a chat in the sunshine with Iwan Roberts...he was gutted he missed you.

You didn't attempt the Precipice Walk then, or a bike ride along the Mawddach Trail?
An amazing area outside the school holidays, but then half of Birmingham and Liverpool decamp to it and spoil everything.
Anywhere from Barmouth round to the Porthmadog area is worth a visit.😎

One of my earliest memories is a day trip to Barmouth in the late fifties. The car broke down half way there, a regular occurrence in those days. Can't even remember if we got there eventually - even now, I'd think twice before heading all that way on a day trip!

I can remember going to Caernarfon Castle for the day in dads Austin Cambridge, no AA cover or fuck all. We did it with no fuss, we also pulled into Percy Thowers Garden Centre on the way back to buy some bedding plants. We went with the school to the Ffestiniog Railway on a dray trip too

Interesting excerpt from Adam Rutherford about being descendants of royalty. He writes about Edward III but the same applies to Owain, particularly with having so many children

just because you don't do the maths, doesn't mean others don't.

I know there's around half a million 17th great grandads each, its just that my cousin can prove the linage which includes Sir Francis Drake and a Swedish queen.

I've found a lot as she went back to the 13th century. The dark part of which l could be ashamed of is that l may be related to Denis Wise.

Of course they can. We probably all can if we can go back far enough if the tree is all there.
