The big 6 just get bigger & bigger

Before I make a couple of comments on this, I’m totally astonished why there is a big 6 rather than what it should be, a big 5. How Spuds get on that list is beyond comprehension.

So it’s going to interesting to see how all these points deductions/FFP problems play out in the next year. They’ll be more IMO, including us, but it’s the big boys I’m interested in. How will the PL deal with being taken to court time after time costing millions.

I’ve just had a look at the last 10 years. Out of the PL, FA Cup and even the League cup , 28/30 winners have come from the big 5. The other two were won by some bloody upstarts from the East Midlands. The LC, something other clubs could aspire to in the past,us obviously in 97 & 2000, B’ham in 2009 and Swansea in 2013 as just a few examples in the last 25 years, are no more. The same 3 winners for the last 10 years.
Even the SF is difficult for the others. FA cup last 5 years - just 6/20 from outside that group! Considering they can and get drawn against each other in earlier rounds it’s an unbelievable stat.
Very sadly IMO it’s what the PL and FA want. 2 big sides in the final for example every year so their ‘product’ ( and that’s how THEY see it) can be watched by millions of Chinese, Indians, Arabs in the Gulf etc. Us? We’re not important and we don’t care. I’ve not watched a full FA Cup final for 20 years apart from one obvious example.

I know a lot of what I’ve written is the bleeding obvious, but I sometimes wish I lived back in Germany and could watch games with great atmospheres where the fans are truly listened to.

Finally I suspect Man City will get done with an absolute huge fine which they’ll happily pay to the PL, who will be able to use that money to help further develop their product in other places in the world

The system is totally broken.
How can a maverick provincial club make the slightest impact on BCCs on a long term basis under rules designed to protect a minority?
We've suffered because of naivety and bungled management and all the adulation around Newcastle last season, for example, has turned to dust. Plus last time I looked they actually won nothing.
Ultimately, though it's like climbing Everest in trainers and a tee shirt for the likes of us.

Absolutely agree with everything above.
Next season the Group stage of the Champions league will increase from 6 to 8 games.
If you get to the final you will play another 7 games.
It will not be long before CL teams opt out of the League Cup.
Why don't the 6 BCC'S just clear off and play in a European Super League and make up the top division with a further 6 teams.
If our income drops so be it, just pay the players and agents less money.

Perhaps Newcastle the richest club of all should sue the PL on behalf of the other clubs who are all suffering from the cartel that's destroying the game for the lesser mortals.
I know Newcastle are bank rolled by a questionable source, but I'm sure they wont want to stand by competing for 7th place when they have more resources than any of the teams above them.

There are two reasons why this won't happen. First, because all of the BCCs know that abandoning domestic competition would be profoundly unpopular with their fans, and as much as they are keen to attract overseas TV viewers, there is no way that would actively seek to alienate their core supporter base - it would be suicide.

Second, under the new Football Governance Bill, which has just been introduced to Parliament, they will be banned from joining a European Super League anyway. The Bill will almost certainly become law, which means any hopes that Real Madrid and Barcelona had of establishing such a league are pretty much over.

So they'll fuck over the rest so that they're the only ones left.

Maybe we should join the Sweaty Prem.

This is not what I signed up for when I became a football fan. I spent 40 years thinking about this sort of shit while I was at work (well not exactly this .. but complex finances) and I don’t want to think about it for for ‘fun’. 3 points in the bag should always be three points in the bag (even for Notts Forest) .. if individuals or boards have broken the rules it should be them who are punished. Defucti g points in an arbitrary way at any time in the season punishes players, and fans and undermines the whole competition!

Really? In any circumstances? There's a lot who cry corruption, if they uncovered genuine corruption (e.g. paying opposition to throw games) would your position be the same?

If the blokes at work particularly the younger ones are any example, they don't care the direction the game has headed into.

These people talk about football a lot, just the one topic of conversation for most of them nearly all of it focussing on " The big" clubs.

All supporting Bcc's, they complain when any live game doesn't feature a BCC, apparently it's boring then.
They have more knowledge of major European clubs than they do of the championship, & chat never revolves around the direction the game has taken, but who will be the major signings in the summer.

Money, money, money of course. Their revenues have increased significantly in the last decade. By way of comparison, in 2021/22 they went out of the Europa Conference League after the group stage whereas we'd made the semi finals having failed to advance in the just about more lucrative Europa League. They finished 4th in the PL, we finished 8th. They went one stage further in each of the domestic cups. We turned over nearly £215m, they £444m.

It is obviously incredibly hard and the other 5 clearly have benefitted hugely from having had exponentially higher incomes than the rest before the various constraints were put in place (P&S was 2015/16) but Spurs are both an illustration of how to join this particular group of "big clubs" (generally regular European Football including CL and increased revenue streams through ground expansion & commercial opportunities... even though it feels like chicken & egg) and how ultimately it can still count for f**k all in a sporting sense... and this is something that if others do manage to make the jump may continue to be a truism.

Since the creation of the Premiership its Money that counts ......and that's is where clubs like us fail to compete , we and others
clutch at straws in a vain attempt to compete
I'm under no illusion that the top clubs can afford to cream off talent and youngsters heads are turned by these clubs but in essence it's a sweep up to collect such talent whilst heads are turned ....but when they fail to see the bigger picture when cash is dangled front of their eyes

Liverpool creamed off that young lad from us, who played the other week. Still no fee agreed.

I don't disagree with anything written, and know how extraordinary it was, but we should remember we didn't win anything by spending loads of money.

Our squad value, and our wage bill, were tiny when we won the league. So spending is not the only way.

(What's happened to our wage bill since then is a different story, and arguably a text book example of why P&S / FFP was brought in)

Sounds like you work with a right bunch of cunts.

We can moan all we like, but we deserve all we get the way our club has been run in recent years, we abandoned our business model of buying up and coming young talent and selling on to finance the club and payed over the odds on wages and fees for players will little or no sell on value. On a personal note I have found the last three managers style of play to be slow boring and predictable, lacking passion or connection to the fans. Its often said on here that modern football is rubbish, that is because we remember a working class game, played at pace with commitment, now it is a rich mans business, clinical and played on a bowling green carpet. Rant over

You won’t see any Tim Flowers bounce over the shoulder from a divet these days.
