Exactly. Couple that with no European football next season and I genuinely think we’ll be right up the league challenging for trophies. Most of our squad will get a nice break during the World Cup, which may give us an advantage during the second half of next season. Clubs with most of their first team at the WC will have to deal with having lots of injured/knackered players.
Elite manager should have no excuses then?Exactly. Couple that with no European football next season and I genuinely think we’ll be right up the league challenging for trophies.

Vesta has said he’s determined to stay and fight for his place. Depressing newsI mentioned this a few weeks ago. As of now, which will change of course with some coming and going, we’ve only got the two goalies, the two Belgians, Amartey, Vestergaard and Mendy going. All our lot will have a nice break mid season and be raring to go for the Xmas games unlike most of the BCC’s. I genuinely feel that no way the top 6 PL positions next season will finish up being held by the BCC’s
Who says we have an elite manager?Elite manager should have no excuses then?
I feel for him. He was a panic buy and is now languishing at a club where he is completely unsuited to the manager's preferred style of play. He will never be a regular starter for us, which is bad news for him with the World Cup coming up. It would be best for everybody that he moves to a club where he can play regularly.Vesta has said he’s determined to stay and fight for his place. Depressing news
There are two main reasons why I think England won't win the World Cup. The first is that our defence just isn't good enough. The second is that Southgate is tactically conservative and will always try to fit his most creative players in a rigid system that is designed primarily not to concede, hence his preference for Mount over Grealish.I thought Germany were far better for 70 mins but England improved a lot after Grealish came on. Mount / Rice / Saka are top players but they look ‘over coached’ … too much safety first and they added very little to that game. Kane also plays far too deep for England.
I feel that this is the result of the importance of the 'squad' over the 'team'. Southgate has a way that he wants to play, it is worse than 'conservative', it is negative and he chooses players to fit into a defined structure. There are two main reasons why I think England won't win the World Cup. In other words easy to play against .........there is little pace and as said no freedom of movement or creativity can't see us getting out the group stage.I feel that this is the result of the importance of the 'squad' over the 'team'. They are required to play in a certain way and heavily coached into doing so, individual expression, in fact differences of any kind are not really wanted. Southgate prefers to play without a playmaker, hence Grealish does not start and players like Maddison are frozen out. Against half decent opposition, England are functional but uninspiring, without creativity or any real 'bite', they look to be designed and selected by committee.
We'll get out of the group and through the round of 16, then most likely face France in the QF. It will be a tight game and level at half-time, but in the second half the momentum will start to flow inexorably towards France as our players become weary and start to lose their shape. France will take the lead at around 70mins and Southgate will stand on the touchline looking perplexed until eventually throwing on Grealish, Foden and Saka on with 10 minutes to go. England will dominate the final stages of the game and create several good chances, but it will be too little, too late and France will progress. In other words easy to play against .........there is little pace and as said no freedom of movement or creativity can't see us getting out the group stage.
Simon JordanWho says we have an elite manager?
Indeed, predictable and pedestrian. Play to the plan, which everyone, including the opposition knows all about. In other words easy to play against .........there is little pace and as said no freedom of movement or creativity can't see us getting out the group stage.

Particularly annoying this morning was Southgate praising Kane and being pleased with the performance of the team. What the hell was he watching?
Seems to be playing as a 'false no.9' for England. Always dropping off and although he gets involved all over the pitch, he does so to precious little effect.Just one goal, a pen, in two games but he leaves Maddison out.
Don't say that Southgate won't play him.Grealish turned the game for us.
