A few days ago I changed my signature to this...
It caused remarkably little comment.
I did this because a few days previously it came to my attention that the Bundestag had ratified into law the 'Infection Control Act', that was passed by the German parliament back on November 18th 2020.
The new law enables the Merkle government to enforce any edicts that it deems necessary under the guise of protecting public health. Note, these are 'edicts' and do not need to pass through parliament.
This allows the German authorities to deal with dissenters in, pretty much, anyway that it wishes, it has already used this powers to break up anti-lockdown protests, making multiple arrests, beating others and using water cannon on crowds including women and children.
The demonstrators are labeled as 'covid deniers', 'anti-vaxxers' and 'conspiracy theorists' of all kinds and are, of course, branded as 'Neo-nazis' and supporters of AfD. They are regarded as dangerous and some are calling for a further clampdown, including the arrest and possible detention of those posting anything online that goes against the government line. Some are even calling for deportations, given that most of the demonstrators appear to be German citizens, that could get rather interesting.
The 'Infection Control Act' allows such measures without recourse to parliament, I wonder when the first 'Protective Custody Orders' will be issued.
