An amazing Lady who has forged an amazing career for herself. Born the 4th child of 12 from the 11 pregnancies of her mother (the 10th producing twins). She has always described herself as being born "dirt poor", the first family homes were one room cabins in the hills of East Tennesee. She credits her illiterate father for her business acumen saying "he couldn't read or write but was smart enough to know how to run his business and make a profit". Her Mother encouraged her to have a lifelong love of music. A successful songwriter before she turned singer herself,an actress,along with her business ventures,she now has an estimated personal wealth of 500million dollars!
In 1974 her song "I Will Always Love You" reached No.1 in the Country Music chart and Elvis Presley indicated that he wanted to record the song also. Dolly was interested until Colonel Tom Parker,as Elvis's manager,told her that it was standard procedure for a songwriter to sign over half of the publishing rights to any song recorded by Presley. Dolly Parton flatly refused. She has made many millions of dollars in royalties for the song in the years ever since!
How can you not like a Lady who when asked on the Oprah Winfrey Show about all her cosmetic surgery,essential for her famous image, replied "Well,it takes a lot of money to look this cheap"!
When quizzed about any future cosmetic surgeries she has said "If I see something saggin',baggin' or draggin',I'm gonna get it nipped,tucked or sucked"!
And "Womanhood was a difficult thing to get a grip on in those hills,unless you were a man"!
