Evans to Manure....

Why would they need to give him a short term contract to play in two friendlies- couldn’t they have just played him as a ‘trialist’ in a friendly.

Perhaps he’s short of cash. At least it shows he’s definitely not here next season. Did well for us .... especially when playing against Man U. They must have looked those games an wondered why they’d paid £80m for Maguire when they could have got Jonny back for £5m.

Tbf I am glad he's gone. Nothing to do with his ability but having a ' key ' player spending more time in the treatment room rather than on the pitch, is extremely disruptive in terms of keeping a settled team. We need to know our back 4 and not keep chopping and changing.
Good luck to him for whatever is left of his playing career.

From the BBC, (10:48):

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking about the return of Jonny Evans, as United beat Lyon 1-0 in a pre-season friendly: "He came to train with us, to work on his fitness and I thought it was a good idea to help each other out.

"We know he is a really experienced player but also a very good person. He will help the young players especially. It is a benefit for both sides.

"You can see he is a fine character and he is a leader. He understands football. He really contributed to the good performance of the team in the second half."

Not sure how well they are generally equipped at the back but as a part-time player, why not?

Shows how little I know. Never appeared to show any passion as a leader for us; sure he told Cags where to be when they were playing next to each other, but couldn't even be arsed to rouse the troops after we (very frequently) conceded.
