Evans!!!

Is it a coincidence that Faes, Soyuncu, Maguire, Morgan, little Wes all seem to Exel when playing along Evans ??
I think Faes has had his best games alongside him especially Newcastle and yesterday.
Yes, it’s a coincidence

The defence looks so much calmer when he’s in it . Felt totally different watching them in last two games . Didn’t sense a disaster about to happen any second like so much of the season .

Central defence needs an organiser. Huth,Elliott. Taggs etc. Shame Jonny seems set to leave
as he would be a central fgure for me in the second division...

It did feel different watching them in the last 2 games but yet he played in each of the first 7 games in which we shipped 22 goals. A collective responsibility for sure but it was hardly the picture of calm at the back (though admittedly often partnered by a certain somebody). His propensity for injuring himself with poorly executed tackles (nearly managed it again yesterday as well) is also a questionable trait & given that he has made only 28 League starts (with 3 sub appearances) in 2 seasons suggests that, at the age of 35, he should probably consider turfing it in & that we shouldn't plan on building anything around him even if he was to stay.

It's no coincidence, Evans despite his years (or because of them) knows what is going on around him, he's played 100 internationals and won the following:

Sunderland
  • Football League Championship: 2006–07[57]
Manchester United
  • UEFA Champions League: 2007–08
  • Premier League: 2008–09, 2010–11, 2012–13
  • Football League Cup: 2008–09, 2009–10
  • FA Community Shield: 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013
  • FIFA Club World Cup: 2008
Leicester City
  • FA Cup: 2020–21
We're going to need the likes of Evans around the place next season so the club should do everything they can to keep him.

Ok but as what?
Player/Coach? He's probably still got another season in him despite his injury problems if we manage him well, then we should develop him as a coach. He's certainly preferable to that horrible cunt John Terry. We desperately need some stability and should start with educating the ones who stay in how to defend.

Like him Doug but he’s gone over get clattered in the championship as well
Agree richard but he's probably still the best we've got and his presence seems to keep them around him more organised and calm. He's said he'd like to get into coaching ' so maybe a player coaching job might work.
Face it our elite defensive coach didn't really work
?????

Never near getting relegated if he’d been fit.
Head & shoulders best defender at our club since he arrived.
"Was" the best before last season and if he still is then that says more about those around him. This season he started 12 of which we won 2, drew 2 so hard to justify claims that we'd have been nowhere near relegation had he been fit. Our issues at the back were as much about our failure to realise that he was done than in adequately replacing Fofana or getting Soyuncu back in the fold. Still, his little turn & dribble across the 6 yard line against Liverpool was pretty entertaining.
