People leave concerts early too!

Over this weekend, at both the Springsteen and Foreigner shows, it was amazing how many people left either before or during the encores.

At Foreigner, for example, the four people to our left and the four to our right all left early, giving us the freedom of our bit of the 13th row. Now, before you say it was a bunch of old people staying up past their bedtime, it was actually the complete opposite - it was a group of four young girls and two young couples. And, to compound things, the two couples arrived late and missed the opening act.

It’s not like anyone had work to go to. Springsteen was Friday night and Foreigner was the Sunday evening before Labor Day.

While I never do it, at least at the football you can make the excuse that we were getting beaten. But leaving either before or during what is usually the best bit of the show? How does that make any sense? Why would you fork out the kind of money it takes to get good seats, if it’s more important for you to beat the traffic to get home? I don’t get it.

It's all about saying that you were there when you only have a passing interest. Look at LA FC v Inter Miami. Manages to make the front pages (Mail Online anyway!!!! Guilty pleasure to see what crap they can come up with next). These people have no interest in the sport or the teams. Just there to be seen, or in the case of your concert goers to say that they were there.

Maybe they had been hit by the sudden realisation that at their time of life they should be spending their time more wisely than attending a Darby & Joan club sing-a-long?
Very funny. Let me tell you, they gave a very good impression of being every bit as much in to it as we were while they were there, and then they were gone!

I left a Stray Cats concert at the Brixton Academy just before the encore, knowing that Dave Edmunds was about to join them on stage. The underground was stopping at 10pm or something and it was the last tube I could get back into central London to get back out to where I’d parked my car.
As it turned out one of them fell off the stage and broke his arm so I didn’t miss much.

Also left a few Rise Against concerts early as I was only interested in watching the support acts, The Flobots and Anti-Flag.

Why wouldn’t you stay? Christ, I took my then teenage sons to see Rise Against and stayed, even though they seared my ears off they were so loud!

As somebody who usually avoids megadome gigs but has had to go to a few to see certain bands recently (like The Cure last May) where it takes over an hour to get out of the goddam car park after a show it's not really surprising. Me and the mrs usually nab some hot dogs from a street vendor and eat in the car and drink the leftover beer from pre show tailgating until it's clear.

TBF i saw Foreigner at the NEC on the "4" tour and wanted to get out before the end because it was fucking terrible.
But i couldn't as my parents had dropped me off and were going to pick me up at the end and not before.

I’m guessing you’re not a fan of the band, which is usually not the case.
