The goalie has to cover the most likely scenario - that someone is going to get something on it. When it goes straight through, then a goal at the far post is the usual outcome. I seem to recall Tim Flowers conceding such a goal late on in the League Cup semi-final first leg at the Stadium of Shite, albeit at the other post.
