His new position seems to be that while he opposes partial lockdown rules for Manchester he would favour a complete national lockdown.
He said this afternoon: "the only certain thing to work is a national lockdown... but the Government told us they are not willing to consider that". In other words, closing pubs in Manchester will ruin the economy, but if we close everything, everywhere – including every last Cornish pasty joint in Penzance, where infections are among the lowest in the country, and falling – then Mancunian businesses can breathe a sigh of relief, and all will be fine.
