Another ACL injury

i discussed this once with a knee surgeon who did a meniscus op on me. What he said and it may or may not be true is apart from the game being quicker, and players chasing balls that would've gone out of play years ago, that boots are lighter and slimmer, the sole is not as flat and more curved and it's much easier to put your weight wrong on your planted foot and have the force/torque go through your knee ligaments in a damaging way.

About right...
When I did the ACL in my left knee(1976) I compounded the issue by rupturing the lateral ligaments as well. Fred Stoyle, the long gone Tigers surgeon, made a right mess of the procedure, resulting in me having to go through 2 more ops over a period of 15 years just to make walking relatively pain free. Knee completely knackered for anything other than a very steady stroll now.

I've had a partial tear in a left medial ligament for decades. i check with a doc every 5 years and get a scan and they always say, not bad enough for an op, so just keep your muscles in shape around the knee and see how it goes. Still playing at 57, so can't be too bad. (cue serious injury and surgery in next game).

I remember opening a very special Christmas present box, taking out my new adidas boots and seeing a little silver spanner in the bottom of the box. I thought I was going to play for Real Madrid.
