Bit of fun in these troubled times

I was thinking this earlier this morning.

I Stand With Ukraine they say. Well then open up your home and take in some people, and the £350 per month that accompanies it.

My extended family have took a family from Ukraine in. They do live in London though so it's a lot easier there

Watch, Steve's back garden will quickly transform itself into a mighty wheat field. He's got his bases covered (y)

But the Russians and our gang have been poking their noses in for years and they don’t seem to want assistance so how do we know who regards us as a refuge

Councils have been offering landlords to take over their properties for a 10 year deal for sometime now, to put in immigrants. All this is planned, l said no as l don't think its fair on the neighbours. l've had the misfortune of Romanian and Bulgarians before, they were absolute disrespectful filthy pigs.

Yes sorry I realised that after I’d posted but was getting off a train. That said I wouldn’t use “compelled”.
Yeah, maybe compelled not the right term. But what do you see different from Ukrainian refugees and other refugees, that you have decided to take one in?

Theres not a mention of the genocide the Chinese are committing in Tibet anywhere. Must be because there's no politic agenda in Tibet.

The immediate push was that my fiancée, who's been much concerned about Putin and his intentions for years, suggested it (before the Government announced its sponsorship/matching scheme as it happens, although that obviously makes it simpler in terms of practicalities, as it's not easy to evaluate the bona fides of voluntary organisations and we have no personal contacts). Additionally my house is big enough for it to be practical - previously I lived in a small flat, moved here 2+ years ago, and have only just completed renovations. So in that sense it's not what's different about the Ukrainian situation, but of course it's also because for various reasons this conflict seems to have a more immediate and direct impact on the UK and has implications for our future. And of course it would be disingenuous to pretend that it's not easier to consider doing this with people from a closer cultural/lifestyle background than people from further afield.

Lots of respect from me Steve

Respect to you Steve, it's a good thing you're doing 👍

Friends in Northumberland have offered to take in the 4 children of professional colleagues from Lviv and are figuring out how they can get them here. They’d assumed one of the parents (probably the mother) would come too, but both are staying in Lviv (a doctor and nurse coupke

Thanks, we’ve registered but not sure how it will proceed from here. We are contacting friends who might themselves have relevant Ukrainian connections but otherwise just have to wait and see how it works.
