what a film ! on the telly right now, you woke freaks better not watch it, you'll need Theropy in the morning.

Watched that in the Cinecenta 1976 I think, it was a double bill with Death in Venice starting Dirk Bogarde as a bloke who fancied young boys , it was fucking ahit, I reckon they put it on so we would all laugh like fuck at the film after it.

Blazing Saddles is a great film.
Not sure why "woke" people wouldn't like it?
If you think they wouldn't, then you've misunderstood the film.
Mel Brookes endorsed Biden in 2020.

Blazing Saddles was ahead of its time in being a woke film about forty years before 'woke' became a thing. Cleavon Little in particular was superb - such a shame he died so young.

Retired film star Hedy Lamarr sued Warner Bros for $100,000 citing that the films running parody of her name infringed her right to privacy. The studio settled out of court for a small sum and an apology for “almost using her name”. Brooks said Lamarr “never got the joke”. The lawsuit is referenced in the film when Governor Le Petomaine remarks “This is 1874; you’ll be able to sue HER”!

At the beginning of WWII, Lamaar worked with George Antheil in developing frequency hopping technology, to overcome the "jamming" of torpedoes by the Germans. In 1942, under her then-married name, Hedy Markey, she filed for a patent for the Secret Communication System, patent case file 2,292,387. The technology wasn't adopted until the 1960s and is the basis of modern WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth technology. Not just a pretty face.

Every day is a school day.

They advertised for a “Frankie Laine type singer” and were surprised when the real Frankie Laine got in touch and said he would sing the movies title song himself. He was never told the film was a spoof so sang the song seriously. They added the whip crack sound effects afterwards!

Slim Pickins refused to sleep in the hotel whilst shooting the movie, he lived in his knackered old Winnibago in the hotel car park, some nights he'd sleep under the stars and cook on an open fire

Blimey, even when discussing a ruddy great film he can't resist making a badly spelled twat of himself.

Burton Gilliam as Lyle was very uncomfortable with the racist nature of his character in the film and the slurs involved. Cleavon Little spoke to him and said it was only a name in the script and was unambiguous as he was playing the role of a villain anyway. He also didn’t like being the main “protagonist” in the fart scene.Gilliam had served in the US Coast Guard and was on the boxing team winning 201 fights out of 217. He remained in boxing becoming a referee in California. His first film part in Paper Moon came when he was working as a Dallas fireman.

There was a move to ban it by BLM last year, but enough pushback saved the film. I know HBO has the rights to it in the States, they'll show it - but only preceded by a short 'educational' film telling you what to think about it. They won't show it in Canada at all.
Gone With The Wind wasn't so lucky, that's.. gone. With the wind

Why did people want to ban it?

did you need therapy?

You wanna sort your own nut job life out before taking offence at a spelling mistake. Some serious mental illness coming to the surface with every post you make. Why are you so bitter, is it because your life is a fuck up and you've impacted it on others around you ?

Because it's offensive. That's all you need to know.
who is it offensive too ?

We are told that comedy is offensive to this that and the other, but is it ? Are these "offended" people just attention seekers and weak ? All comedy is about touching peoples raw nerves, piss taking is natural. If someone takes the piss out of a shirt l wear, I'll think twice about wearing it again, same applies to behaviour that attracts piss taking..

Its probably the funniest film ever made. People only used to talk about it as funny, no one talked about being offended about it until the last 10 years, the film and its humour ahasn't changed, our programming as.

It actually laughs at stereo types! But there’s an whole bunch of morons who look for “offence” everywhere.

The Manchester Ship is these twats latest twat thing to complain about.

What has a canal done wrong?
apparently the ship on the Manchester clubs badge reminds some people who have never been slaves and don't know any slaves of the bad 'ol days of slavery for some crazy reason !

It upsets them ffs. Sorry, it doesn't upset them, they pretend it upsets them.

I wasn't aware that anyone was upset about Blazing Saddles, or the Manchester Ship - until I was told on here that people were upset.

So far only one person has claimed Blazing Saddles is offensive.

Guardian columnist, and City supporter, Simon Hattenstone wrote: "The ship has nothing to do with football and everything to do with the business from which Manchester made its money. The product of slavery became so subtly embedded in our culture that we celebrated it in our club badges even without realising it.."

Doesn't seem to be a mass movement complaining about the ship but of course The Daily Mail took one person's comment and had a meltdown.

You'd think they'd understand the difference between 'comment' and 'campaign'. They probably do but it's all part of the 'culture war'.
