Spoke to a PTI NCO RA last year, he was saying fitness levels have dropped, recruits can no longer be abused by being shouted or sworn at, told to tone down bad language, beastings are a thing of the past. Result - poor discipline and sloppy standards, no longer fit for the job. Saying that I am sure the Para's and Royal Marines still maintain the highest possible standards, wonder what the failure rate is in training for these elite regiments? NATO has state of the art kit, the Russians have a lot of soviet age kit, judging by the kicking they are getting from incredibly organised Ukraine forces with NATO kit, they would definitely lose a conventional war.
