Car Insurance

Your policy will automatically renew at £405.13 the email said. To cancel please phone a number and we'll keep you hanging on deliberately.
Ballbag goes on CompareTheMarket and gets a quote for the same at £270.
Incumbent provider eventually picks up the phone and ask what I've been quoted.
Incumbent provider miraculously finds a price at £355. Get's told no. Then finds another one at £320.
Pricks.

It’s the game. Play it.

They make a fortune out of people lazily assuming the cost hasn’t gone up much and renewing without checking. Sometimes it’s easier and quicker to just start a new application online, and I’ve been told by a few companies it’s the only way to get the cheapest quote.

I do find it strange that large multi million £ organisations including insurance, mobile phones, tv etc operate like a bartering game in a Moroccan souk. It’s like dealing with Arthur Daly. Bizarre

They know that many people do y check standing orders. How many bought a phone and sim over two years and 3 years later are still paying the same having failed to go down to sim only or upgrade their phone.

The flip side is, you won't know whether you've saved money till you have to make a claim.

My son was involved in a minor accident a few months back, he was hit and the blighter did $2k damage.
The other insurer said even though he was hit, he didn't try hard enough to avoid the collision (he got t-boned by somebody who wasn't paying attention coming out of a side street).
His own cheap insurance said "they're claiming they're only responsible for 66% of cost as you didn't try hard enough. tough luck"
Luckily i'd forgotten to take him off mine, which is a major insurer and not as cheap, so we went through that.
They said "It's clearly not your fault, you won't have to pay a cent, and we'll go after the other driver for all repair costs."

Sometimes you get what you pay for.

It's called a competitive market. It's our job to spend a little time getting the best value we can.
Of course they will bat for their side. Why is that a problem?
If we had a universal fee, like the BBC, then everone would be arguing for an individually decided option..
It's not personal so grow some...
