You mean Neville Holt. Shut down cos the teachers were messing with the kids. The place was abandoned for years, till David Ross bought it, to re-develop as his home and company offices. Ot was six months from the roofs caving in. I worked on it. Removing paneling from the walls, to renovate, revealed some very old graffiti. Fascinating.

Played Rugby against Nevill Holt when at Welland Park school in Harborough back in the 70's. Fair play to them they spanked us, the difference between practicing every afternoon to 2 PE lessons a week I guess. They were a different world, so polite and courteous. Horrible to think the poor sods were experiencing such abuse.
 
Sorry yes, Nevill Holt. Some of these places have wicked pasts yet are still in business. Ampleforth College being an example.

Boarding schools are a weird throw back to the Empire.

Off subject, but -

l loved finding old papers in houses l was renovating, mostly around Leicester so l could associate with them. Court cases seem to throw up the same surnames as people now days.

I found a Mercury once that had the headline of my dads best mate dying by sleeping under a tank and the tank sank and killed him, l think this was 1956 in Germany when my dad was 17. This was National Service years and my dad got out of it because of flat feet, it could have been him and l wouldn't exist !

I'm working on a 16th century pub right now but its been heavily renovated so not expecting to find much, but the Switzerland slate roof goes back about 200year and the oak beams probably 400 !

Yes he is the Carphone Warehouse bloke, and a member of the 'Ross' Fish Fingers family. Also the sponsor of a number of Academy schools under the Cameron govt, including Charnwood Academy in Loughborough (Burleigh Community College as was), and The Bobby Moore Academy next door to West Ham stadium. Allegedly he 'ran' the Olympics for his best friend, one Boris Johnson.

Ahhh, he owns half of Market Harborough..
