Record crowd ?

The lush trying to sneak off out the picture bottom right while tickling the nuts of the gent behind him, 'bollocks, the missus doesn't know I'm here!'

Well in 1954/55 we played Arsenal to a draw 3-3 there was well over 42 thousand just managed to sneak in before they closed the gates queued for what seemed hours

My grandad was there. They’d have been over 50000 no doubt after the gatemen had taken their cut.
Everyone in a hat collar and tie

My old man always said the most packed he ever saw filbo was when he saw us play spurs in D1 in 1963. the official crowd was 41,622, but he reckoned there were a good few thousand more than that. He claimed it was so tight he couldn't get his fags out of his pocket for a smoke.

I remember decent crowds in The FA Cup replays against Arsenal in the early 70s at Filbert Street, went to Highbury when we drew and both games at Home and I think it was Sammels who scored the winner for them (signed for us eventually) but the ground was packed out…
Good old days when we had regular sell outs unlike the 80s with the terrible attendances…

Think you’re thinking of the 1975 trilogy. 0-0 at their place where most of us were hunted in the Clock End for all of the match.
Back to our and bastard Radford scored in ET. Fortunately the Birch got a great headed equaliser mins before the end in front of a delirious Kop. Back again at FS where the last near 40000 crowd ( yes probably more) packed in to watch the bastard score the winner again at the end of ET.
The following year the capacity was cut to 34000 due to seating in the FS end.

When it wasn’t all ticket like in these games there is no doubt there were far more than the official figure

Sammels played for us that match.
I think, can't say 100% but I think Jim Rodford got the winner for them

I remember going to the 6th round game at home to Arsenal in Spring 71 - we were in charge of Div 2, they were heading for the Double. Again, I think the official attendance was 42,002. Anyhow, I got to go in the Wing Stand, I remember the first view of the ground as I walked up the steps, it was close to kick off, sunny afternoon, and all you could see, all around the Filbert Street End, the Popular and the Kop, were faces, thousands of faces - no necks, no arms, no torsos, just faces. Heaven knows what the actual attendance was.

It was also the very dullest of 0-0 draws

Sammels moved to us in 72. He played against us in the two matches in 71 where Rodney had a perfectly good goal disallowed at their place

For some reason I remember Sammels scoring against us, must have been a league match, great old days sneaking in the grounds as a nipper…

One of my trips to Highbury was just after the Moorgate disaster, had to walk or get buses to the ground, big Brother Seamus (he got out of Welford Road the week before) was singing his head off with a blue & white scarf & wooly City hat in the Arsenal pub next to the ground, Arsenal fans singing along as well.. 😳🤣🍻

I thought it was the pop side that the seats put in the end of that season to reduce the capacity down to 34k
