Refereeing question number 4

GTIF

Roofer
Early in the second half a player scores a goal, no offence has been committed so the goal is awarded
However the referee realises the scorer is a sub who came on at half time without telling him
What action does the referee take
a)Does the goal stand
b) What if any action does he take against the sub
c) What if any action does he take against the player who left the pitch without permission

The referee receives a team sheet showing the starting 11 plus names of subs, the referee will note down the names and shirt numbers of the subs and tick them off when they enter the field of play, also details of the player that has been replaced. Before the start of the second half the referee would need to know of any changes made by the team managers so the above can happen, the referee should ask both managers. If the referee finds the goal scorer is a substitute that is on the team sheet but he has not been told about the switch the goal would stand, a yellow card should be shown and this would be on the match report sent in to the FA / County FA.

Also a yellow card for the player leaving the field of play without referee’s permission.

If it was really early like straight from kick off, and I was reffing, I would give the 2 yellows, and one to the manager for luck, not give the goal, and restart the game as the start of the 2nd half. No bucker there would know if that was correct or not and would have to trust me.

What about the player who left the pitch

The goal stands
Player is cautioned for entering the field of play without permission
No action is taken against the player who left the field as it was half time he was entitled to

surely for c) he's left the field of play (physically) but not the field of play (legally).
subs can be cautioned when they're not on the field of play physically during the game (and even after the final whistle has blown) but being on the teamsheet means they're part of the game legally??
if halftime doesn't count as part of the game allowing the sub to leave without a caution, surely the same logic should apply to the player coming on as he joined during halftime, either neither or both should get booked not just one.
seems a bit daft to me.

anyway how was a blatant handball in the goal area in the hammers game allowed, surely that stuff is more important.

The player coming on did so illegally
He committed an offence
The player leaving did nothing wrong
