Rob Tanner Tweet !

Would he want an instant new job though? Am sure he'd be interested in the summer, it might be too soon this week?

In by Thursday.

Nine games to suss the squad out, shed load of cash to be spent in the summer. He’d be mad to wait.

Yeah that’s what we need - a manager who doesn’t have strong a personality, who is known for playing passing football with no purpose, and whose tactics apparently baffle his own players…

Didn't seem that baffled when he was at Brighton.
Chelsea was a poisoned chalice for him imo.
When a club throws silly money and just buys loads of expensive stars it doesn't guarantee success. I don't think Potter was ever going to be given the time after their huge outlay of money.
I remember looking at Klopps Liverpool team and the success they were having. I used to think half of them were nothing special, but that's the skill of moulding a team together. Like our title season, a good number of our players would never get in top teams, but together as a team they were bloody brilliant.
Potter did an excellent job at Brighton and got the Chelsea job on the back of that. Given what's on offer he must be a contender for our lot.

Not available at the minute but I'd still try and get Thomas Frank.
Done a fantastic job with them but given the size of Brentford I am sure that he's got them to the peak of their powers. I just wonder if he will sense that he will need a new challenge soon.

This is what I posted 8th March
"Wait until Harry Potter gets the sack at The Bridge, then dump Brendan and get him in. Chelsea will never be his kind of club."

We got rid of Brendan first, we didn't know they were gonna do the same so soon.

Will try and and be as balanced as possible here. Got laughed at for wanting him about 18 months ago. Would be a solid fit I think.
We don’t have a big budget and there isn’t an abundance of divas in the camp as far as I’m aware so managing egos should be no problem. A guy that knows how to set teams up to consistently create chances that has regularly been let down by poor finishing. We are not a team with a big problem putting the ball in the net.. our attacking problems lie with actually creating changes in the first place because our directionless play relies on individual moments. Chelsea have been extremely solid defensively so I’m hopeful he could tighten us up on that front aswell.
Whether he’d be happy to take another job so soon after such a chastening experience I’m not too sure. I’d hope he takes it.

Gonna add a note of caution though.. I do wonder how much of what happens at Brighton is down to their stellar system.. they have a great data driven recruitment strategy and they give you to time and space to succeed. Potter didn’t flourish at Chelsea. Players sold in Cucurella and Bissouma haven’t exactly looked anything like worth the value sold for. Perhaps the system is just built for success whoever comes in. DeZerbi has slotted in and looked like a world beating manager himself. Potter would be coming into a different structure here that is ahead of Brighton facilities wise but light years behind in terms of organisational structure and recruitment. He also has higher expectations here than when he arrived at Brighton. First two seasons of getting the formula right (15th and 16th) well I’m not sure he’d get quite that here.

I hope he gets it and will be extremely supportive if he does but I’m definitely not quite as convinced as I was. He did a grand job at Brighton. Dragged them from the relegation favs to being 4th in the league when he left with a micro budget.

You weren't laughed at by me Shane. I can't recall exactly when I said it but I nailed my Potter colours to the mast a long time ago too. I'm sure you do remember the conversation we had in the pub before the game at Brighton in September (lost 5-2 lest ye forget pop pickers - to a very accomplished and exciting team) when several of us said we'd happily take Potter as our next manager. Your Brighton mate said he'd be the next England manager which I think was stretching it a bit but it was pretty clear he would move on to a so-called bigger club.

As I've said elsewhere he was never going to fit in, giving the type of bloke he is, at the basket case that is Cheatski. I entirely agree with your caveat about the different systems in operation at Brighton. Also the current mess the playing squad is in here will take some sorting but I think he has more than enough about him to be worth taking a risk (and axiomatically the appointment of any new manager is a risk) to take us forward. Naturally I hope the required turnaround won't have to take place from The Championship but it maybe the job of keeping us up in the present situation is beyond any manager.

He took the Chelsea job a few days after that game!

To me Potter is an obvious choice and I hope is one we are pursing with vigour this very morn.

His teams always seemed to struggle to put the ball in the net, we have the woefully inept Daka, an out of touch Vardy and Iheancho blows hot an cold. That said I belive if you put the ball in the penalty area enough Iheancho will score a bag full.

Tartan, you hit the nail on the head, they couldn't score goals. They relied on the bloke whose gone to Everton (Maupe?) and he just wasn't good enough. Didn't we play them at home in the cup, live on TV around 3 years ago? If they had a striker they would have won that game.
Our goal scoring record has not been too bad this year considering Vardy, Ian and Daka have struggled.

I worry that the line in Chelsea's statement about potter supporting a handover period may mean he is not immediately available.

Possibly a good thing? If the BR sacking can lead to only 50% of the ranieri/Shakespeare bounce then we're sorted to the end of the season and that would be the perfect time for potter to come in. I imagine he could use a break and recharge batteries and spend some time preparing.

The key thing in this scenario is will the squad react to the SAS (stowell and saddler) like they did for the Bard over the next 10 games?
