Very very sad to hear she passed away this morning.
She founded Po! and Rutland records in Leicester (used to have a flat on London Road near World Records). She often helped out local bands and sold some of my bands first album through her Rutland Records newsletter. she did it all herself like a real punk does,
She then had a career in education, but returned to music and founded Punk Girl Diaries and Unglamorous Music as well as reactivating Po!
I've known her since the late 80's, always had time for a coffee and chinwag when i came over to blighty. Last time i saw her was July last year at the Firebug since our regular haunt, Brucciani's had closed.

Oh no. That’s awful news.
Only recently read about Ruth’s continued work in women’s music in a recent post from Sgt Wilko.
As a Deep Freeze Mice and Ruth’s Refrigerator fan - who both appeared on Radio Baetzea (along with The Chrysanthemums) - I’m deeply saddened.

Suddenly a Disfigured Head Parachuted.

RIP Ruth

There are dozens of photos like this. Women on stages smiling and laughing and in a valedictory moment, vindicated, liberated, joyous.. and all because of the visionary, trailblazing Ruth Miller.
I was very lucky to count Ruth as one of my very best friends and she did for me what she did for so many. She saw me through some of my darkest days. She was funny, kind and generous.. and since her cancer had returned she’d been very brave and extremely selfless..
…throughout this extraordinary year that she knew she most likely would not see the end of she made so many extraordinary things happen, all done with a passion for music and life that will continue to inspire many for many years to come.
Things are not going back to as they were. Women who haven’t even picked up a guitar or even a drumstick yet are now going to do so because of what this wonderful woman started.
We all have our orders to get on with it. Getting in with it without her won’t be easy but get on with it we must and get on with it we will..
My love to Alan and Izzy and Angus and to all of the incredible Unglamorous women who have included the odd stray bloke like me in their great adventures - and most of all love to the brilliant and unforgettable Ruth Verino.. x

Dear Ruth, I've been trying to find you for ages and today I find you gone and I am devastated. The words "not fair" are over-used I guess but are appropriate nevertheless. We didn't see one another often but had a warm friendship of 15 years. I will miss you very much. I send my love to Isobel and Angus and to your dad Alistair and my love stays in my heart for you all. Val x
