Slavia Prague Match Thread

Really we lost a game of football. Were 3rd in the league and this achieved despite having had our worst injury list for years. Did you question his tactics at Man City, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal etc when we beat them?

Let's face it we are clueless, might be acceptable in Scots football but not here, I think tonight's football has really questioned Brenda's tactics.
Let’s face it , oxonfox comes out with some right pony

Steve McMannaman was dissing is like we were world beaters. You saw how much it meant for Prague to beat us at the end. Like they'd wine the bloody cup. They were well organised and set up not to concede. We were missing our main playmaker.

In the big picture losing tonight isn’t the worst scenario. Let’s face it. It’s been a complete miracle that we’ve managed to be 2nd equal in the PL after 25 games, quarters of the FA Cup and last 32 of the EL with all the injuries we’ve had this season. Those injuries aren’t getting better. With our depth of squad, any further in this competition, the travelling ( including playing at ‘home’ in Europe like Àrsenal tonight ) and the constant Thursday Sunday etc would have meant IMO that we’d have simply run out of steam. Might as well go out tonight and concentrate on the PL and possibly FA Cup glory. We now know we’ve got a maximum of 16 games to play. That’s 16 games to play in 88 days. That’s doable. Hopefully no more injuries and get Fofana,Praet and Maddison back ASAP. Even Perez!!

It was a mess from top to bottom, some of which was forced on us, some was tactical, some was plain rubbish.

The away leg was nowhere near good enough. We treated it like a walk in the park. In knockout European football getting an away goal is massive. We didn’t look like scoring.

Last night was a shambles. I was very disappointed with our team selection,

Barnes should have started in the middle behind Vardy leaving Tielemans to play his usual role. Yes give Under a go but he was crap and no better than Gray. Missing Maddison gave us a massive hole to fill. Over the next few weeks we need to find the answer to this. I agree that Choudhury doesn’t quite work in our side and I think he’ll Ben off this summer.

I don’t think Amartey deserves the criticism he’s getting, he’s way done our list of first team players. We don’t know if Pereira is still recovering a bit from his injury and therefore rested. Soyuncu was rubbish last night, these odd poor performances will worry the other big teams which may help us in the long run. Thomas did okay enough on here were saying don’t play him in the away leg. He’s still young and the experience from last night will do him a lot of good.

Vardy wasn’t his best before his operation and has been anonymous since. Some are saying he’s done for, I think that’s premature but we do need to get in a replacement this summer and treat Vardy with kid gloves.

Our failure to finish in the top four last season cost us signing another player. To compete at the top end of the league regularly we need the bigger income when we can get it. We have to do all we can to finish in the top four this season. I’m gutted we’re out of Europe but for the bigger picture it’s the best thing for us in this most unusual and brutal of seasons. We have learned that we have plenty of talent within our squad, talent that has really come to the fore at times this season, but we need more quality if we’re to maintain our position at the top table.

Our realistic targets must be to win a trophy and finish in the top four. If we can get past Man U in the FA Cup we at least get further than we have since 82 and stand a good chance of our first FA Cup win. As much as we all dare to dream our chances of making the semi finals of the Europa League were a lot less. It’s like the League Cup, the prize money is so much less than the Champions League. Given our ongoing injury crisis and the brutal nature of this season being knocked out could be a blessing in disguise. We have to make sure that it is.

In recent times we’ve lost in a European qualifier against Atletico Madrid then Red Star Belgrade. We then had a very good Champions League campaign but at the detriment of our league position that season. It shows how tough it really is to become a top team and compete at this level year in and year out, more so when you have a weaker and less experienced squad. Let’s not forget even finishing in the top four is a huge achievement for any team outside of the established six and look at how Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have been getting on this year.

Anyway it’s my fault. I’ve cancelled my table reservation outside Nigel’s and I’ve cancelled my flights to Poland.

I can vividly remember Len Glover's final two appearances for City, (Everton and Norwich) his later career and been blighted by injuries and he was a mere shadow of the player he once was when he came on in those final games, I sincerely hope that I'm wrong but Vardy seems to be going the same way.

Some serious knee jerking going on. Bringing out the pre-prepared lines about whoever you hate the most. "typical Rodgers in Europe" "goal Schmeichel's fault" "Amartey a clown" etc.

Get a grip. Yeah it would have been nice to win but the 3 games a week is taking its toll. Our squad hasn't got the depth, some of them had bad games, it happens.

Got to Agree last night when he had a foot race with one of their big centre backs he would of left him for dead but got dealt with easily worrying signs I think we all can see

I'm afraid I'm with you both on this, recently he looks to have lost that vital burst that gives him a foot or two's start on the defenders. He then looks in discomfort after a short sprint. Hope we're wrong but something's not right about him.

Yeah I also noticed that. Inevitable at some point but he still has that edge. He plays best off the defender's shoulder, ready for the ball played in behind.

but his game hasn't really been the 'foot race' for a couple of seasons (albeit a few obvious exceptions). its been more about being in the right place for a first time finish.
the fact that so many times last night he was receiving the ball outside the area - often nearer the half way line - tells its own story.

Telephone call for John Rudkin on line 4 plus 3 calls on hold, I think it's an agent John do you want to return the calls.?
