This was Arsenal. They are top of the league. For a reason. They have expensive international players playing to their potential. They have a deep squad.
We have Harry Souter from Stoke. We have Vards who doesn't do it anymore. We have sick note Madders as our crown jewel. As so often he wasn't available today. We have some home grown not hugely exciting talent in stately home and Harvey. We have a reserve goalkeeper. Just about a third of the outfield is new and trying to get used to a higher division / new country.
What would you do when the Arse came to town? I'd do what Brendan did: pack the defence and try to get something against the odds on the break.
We played like we meant it. We lost by a goal. The defence is looking more solid by the week.
In those circumstances we did alright.
Commentary a disgrace; Smith is Arsenal, not Leicester, despite the attempt to talk about split loyalties. Every situation was Arsenal this and Arsenal that - e.g. a brilliant saving tackle by Wout translates as a fine run by Saka with no mention of the tackle. More of an Arsenal documentary than a commentary.
The majority of ours are doing what they can to get it together.
You Blues

As one of my old coaches used to say "you might not be good enough, but you can let them know they've been in a game".
Did we?
no shots on target or corners?
thought we gave them a bit, last twenty. Saw the relief from the usually staid Arteta when the final whistle went.

Didn’t players say about O’Neill that he made them feel 10ft tall & that they were the best player out there when sent out onto the pitch.
The polar opposite to what Rodgers does.
Using the phrase when you play “ big clubs” in his post match interview again.

Rodgers was right, we were far too passive.

Arsenal have been on a wobble, at least get in their faces and see what they’ve got. We didn’t.

Thought the back 4 did okay, Ward wasn’t busy, but the midfield was pitiful.

Not one player who could pass a ball, retain possession or push the team forward. Not one of them had the nouse to and pick up Xhaka who had the freedom of the KP all afternoon.

Tete looks lost, Barnes has no idea where to run as he has knows the pass is likely to be crap and he’s caught out of position.

Would you? You’d choose to go the same way as a manager who stands alone having the second worse defeat record in the league? hate to point out the blindingly obvious but his management isn’t working.

We’re always too passive

The useless caant rolls out the same shit every week. It’s down to him if we’re too passive !

At least Villa had a go last week. Were very unlucky to lose to 3 shots from outside the area. We just sat back and allowed them to control the whole game. They passed it around OUR 18yd box like it was a training session. I thought we were pitiful with no ambition or imagination.
As an aside I don’t think they’ll win the PL. They don’t have that killer instinct. They need Jesus back. They also played a frightened ref the whole game. He let them get away with every time wasting tactic imaginable.
Their fans were giving it large on the train back south. Arrogant lot. Saying we’ve won the league 13 times to your one!

I don't know why but historically Arsenal seem to bring out the worst in us. Wasn't it last season at the KP when they were 2 up in no time, after we started asleep again ?
Over the last 5 years we had actually had a bit of rare success against them ( 3 consecutive home wins and ending a fruitless 40 year wait for an away win )
In general though they have battered us too many times. Even the title season we only lost 3 games all season and 2 of them were Arsenal.
We show them too much respect imo.
I watched Palace Liverpool last night and I felt Palace weren't afraid to have a go. They were tenacious and gave Liverpool plenty to think about. Why couldn't we have had a pop Arsenal from the k.o ? Get in their faces, show your intent and least give them problems. Arsenal may have picked us off but at least initially you give the fans hope. You don't get in such a disgruntled mood if you think they have given their best shot and just lost to a slicker outfit.

Because our intent is to not lose by too many.

Terrible philophisy. No matter how much the odds are stacked against you, surely you should never set out purely to contain a team.
How can any professional footballer step onto a field knowing that the height of ambition is not to get stuffed ?

I thought KDW was our best player yesterday.

The thing is for me is, this is the product, of getting on for 4 years work from the manager. If you are a good manager you make the team better, if you are not, you make the team worse. You might guess which of the two l believe is the current outcome of 4 years.

Esse said we are a team on a downward spiral, or words to that effect and l think we have to do something about it very quickly, or EVERYTHING that as been built will turn to dust. I do not believe that the owners don't, or haven't known this for a couple of years now. So, l expect a grim end of season with the change happening in June.

I for one, have had enough and I'm thinking of not bothering going after Tuesday, at least not so much. I know others are the same and this is bad !
The booing again yesterday is a bit of an indicator, but l'm surprised that its not blown up already with the fans.

I had a very good business 30 years ago, that,l didn't take the obvious signs, of the industry failing and stayed with it, instead of getting out at the right time, l lost almost everything. I learnt a lesson, l was naive and didn't act on these signs through inexperience, l have no doubt that the owners are not like l was, so, l truly believe hes on borrowed time, and l believe he knows it.

Never been in management than fella.

I’m afraid that’s not leadership

It doesn’t help as it makes you seem like a no nothing caant
Can’t agree with the “caant” part, but the rest of the sentence was spot on.
How anyone can’t think the lack of pressing & the way we just stood off isn’t down to Rodgers is bizarre.
Any manager would have been going berserk on the sidelines yesterday if their team were doing the exact opposite to what your instructions were, & was he????

Did you miss the games against Villa and Totteringham? ;)
We were so much better against a weak Spuds defence and also got at Villa.
My issue with BR is that how can we look decent for a couple of games and then don’t even give Man U and Arsenal a game?
Does he automatically assume we can’t beat the top teams so we deploy the passive tactics from the start.
FFS , we could have still been playing today and wouldn’t have threatened Arsenal.

I know we take the piss but Spuds do count as a top team, we weren’t passive shots them.
Hardly passive in the first half against Ma U.

Spuds are so inconsistent and can be got at .
Utd first half was decent but we didn’t show 2nd half .
Arsenal, we didn’t show at all and we’re the home team.
Created nothing at all and it’s painful to watch the inevitable .

It was a pretty poor game all round yesterday. We pretty much let them have it.
We needed to get stuck into them properly & rough them up.
We not try something different with 10 mins to go, Tete was poor, shove Ricardo on one wing, Barnes on the other, stick Souttar up front and get some crosses in.
Wouldn't have hurt to try it we were loosing anyway

I think it’s exactly this. Damage limitation. Try to keep the goal difference as high as possible.
