Tour De France Unchained

Bit OTT at times but Episode 5 shows Tom Pidcock descending like a bullet and going at over 100kmh.
Breathtaking stuff.

We’re still in MPH in this country. That’s 60mph in case you were wondering. I could do that easy on my FS1E back in the day.

He hit over 65 MPH and this may surprise you but the race takes place in France so the camera motorbikes have the speed in kmh. Those bloody Europeans, win a world war for them and they won’t go imperial.
While the early Fizzy could push the needle near the 60mph mark when laid on the tank and with a decent wind behind you, the later FS1-E bikes were limited to 31mph. With a bit of tinkering though they could do 45mph once derestricted.

Would have been a bit embarrassing being overtaken with ease by a skinny kid on a pushbike.

Fizzys were all the rage at school, so wanted one, unfortunately I was too young to get a licence, stuck on a pushbike till I started earning after school. Then thankfully old enough to go for something a bit bigger cc wise.

In 1948 My old man and his brother biked it to Lynmouth via an overnight stop in Bristol, no fancy derailleur gears back then.

How did the original cast in the TDF lug around metal bikes with no gears and do their own repairs? Now they were fit.
