In the Times today he seems to blame MON for his failure with us in that it was impossible to follow "a god". Here's how he might have tried better:

1. Not break up a winning formula. He ditched a back 3 we had used successfully for 4 seasons, brought in two average full backs and didn't even give Guppy - a key player in the MON team - a place on the bench in his first PL game.

2. Not sign so many crap players like Benjamin, Akinbiyi and Lewis.

3. Not give ridiculous new contracts to players who had admittedly been stars for us previously but then became complacent rather than hungry as they had been under MON. Fat contracts which helped bankrupt the club.

4. Not get distracted by his brief fling with England and hero worship of Beckham.

5. Not being so bloody illiterate with his done good talk.

The fact that he has apparently had 24 jobs and been sacked from most of them says it all.

I'd likely to have been a fly on the wall of the meeting that made that editorial decision.

"Whar irrelevant, serial failure shall we interview this week?"

Wonder how long it will take until Junior Lewis gets a job at Maldon & Tiptree as well.

You've got to say, Peter Taylor is not particularly blessed with the ability to reflect, otherwise he'd have quit the game a long time ago.
