Why I think we’ll be relegated

Firstly the others. I believe like pretty much everyone else Southampton are gone.

Secondly I reckon F*%^^ will survive. As the Saints have no choice but to attack them on Monday it seems almost certain to me they’ll lose. Then they’ve got to play Chelsea. Now they’re not just on the beach but they’ve booked their water skiing and are now at least half way down the cocktail list. Wouldn’t surprise me if F*^^% won. 36 points. Done. Even 34 possibly enough.

So it’s now down to 2 out of 3. I think Leeds are probably done. Big Sam isn’t Houdini as someone mentioned on here. Their 4 matches are difficult and even though Spuds are on the same all inclusive holiday as Chelsea right now, I doubt they’ll get more than 1 more point.
That’s leaves Everton. I thought they played quite well on Monday and now have Doucoure back who is key for them IMO. I can see them possibly getting 4 points from Wolves & Bournemouth, both of whom are now booking their own beach holidays. So that’s 33.

Can we get 3 more points, as for us with our GD would I believe be enough. Fulham? Possibly a point. Liverpool and Newcastle? No chance. So to West Ham. Who knows. My main reason I think we’re doomed is because our midfield is so weak. Giving the ball away time after time meaning the defence is always under pressure. The other problem is too many who are going to play in the last 4 games are leaving. They’re now not going to put their bodies on the line and get injured and ruin a potential big transfer.
Everton had 23 shots, 8 on target and 9 corners on Monday. That’s way more than they’ve had for months. Our last 4 home games we’ve let the opponents have 15+ shots in every one ( I haven’t looked further back).
So for me it’s over. Unless Everton completely bomb in their last 4 games I just can’t see us surviving as I think there’s a good chance we’ve collected our last point of the season.

Finally this is just an honest opinion. Not being negative. You look at Palace Wolves Fulham Bournemouth etc who have not one real star player yet they’ve easily survived. We all know why.

It would certainly be miraculous if Leicester stayed up now, the club have been through a car crash, to now come through it with survival seems unlikely. Let’s hope Smith & Co can perform miracles

calvert lewin coming back also made a big diff for them.
somebody on here was talking about how Vardy wins headers when he's up top instead of nacho or daka.
I don't think he won a single one against the toffees when he was challenged, and CL won a lot.
Our midfield is powderpuff when defending as you say.
i can see us scraping maybe 2 pts if we're lucky.

C-L did what our defenders never do. He gave Faes a gentle nudge EVERY time they went for a header. Just legal. Clever. We don’t do that. We’re not street wise.

l agree with most of that except l think we'll get 5 or 6 points.

l 100% agree that its our midfield that is worse than shit.

Soumare, N'Diddi and Tielemens giving the ball away at Newcastle ( of which they will) is terrifying.

Fulham's the key, a win and the fight is on, lose, and these cowards will throw the towel in. The midfield must be changed.

Mendy for N'Diddi and KDH for Soumare - these two will fight for every ball and go forward the other won't.

Another worry for me is Man C going to Goodison between the CL semi Finals with Madrid and the PL virtually won .
We need 6 points to be safe . Have to beat Fulham and WHU .

Sorry disagree there. They’ve still got 3 games after Everton. It’s only 35 miles away so hardly a difficult trip miles wise. Also it’s Tuesday to Wednesday in the CL. Not Wednesday to Tuesday. Heck of a difference.

Thanks . Feel a bit less stressed about it now

Liverpool and Newcastle are prone to brain fart games. I can see us beating one of them. A point at Blandfield and a pinball Wizard 93rd minute winner at St James Park and we will be back to praying for a bank holiday weekend match away at Bournemouth.

Agree, it’s over we’ve had plenty of chances to get some distance between the bottom three but we have blown it away. All the sings are there for all to see, it’s FT for LCFC in the premier league. And worst of it all, this is down to the Board and Brenda.

I've had that in my mind as well to be honest but didn't want to test fate !

Surely you apply the on the beach logic to Fulham and West Ham?

However I think that a red herring as these teams play with a freedom and anything can happen.

I still think our games are the problem.

Strap your yourselves in!

I know Terry hasn’t been here long but when you have him & huth on the same payroll & as you say players aren’t in the slightest bit street wise then there’s not a great deal of hope.
On the main point, out of the 5 teams involved we have the 2nd hardest remaining fixtures.
Agree with the point about our midfield defensively, we are absolutely shocking.

Agree with that except we'll get nothing at Anfield
We can beat them at the KP on the 15th though

For some quirky reason teams like Chelsea don't lose 5,6,7 on the trot. On that basis Forest won't beat them and anyone thinking Southampton is a formality think again. They performed well enough at Arsenal to prove they are not a walkover.

Thing is every club in the dogfight fans feel the same but if you look at the opta stats we've got the best chance of staying up and if you don't go for all that bollocks check the odds at the bookies, as micky Adams used to say keep the faith

In his press conference today, Smith highlighted the lack of control in midfield and subsequent failure to protect the defence against Everton as the main thing he needs to address. So it’s reassuring that he’s seeing the same things as the rest of us and intends to do something about it.

I can sort of understand the thinking of having Tielemans and Soumare as the two deep-lying central midfielders (ie, no defensive midfielder) against Wolves and Leeds as those were games he thought we could seek to dominate possession. It worked against Wolves in the end and almost worked against Leeds. I also understand him bringing a CDM in for the Everton game given their physicality - it’s just unfortunate he chose to bring in Ndidi, who is a pale shadow of his former self and offers no protection to the defence.

Hopefully Smith realises that if we try to play Fulham, Liverpool and Newcastle either without a CDM or with a malfunctioning one, we’ll get torn to shreds. If we want to gain more control in the middle, protect the defence and retain possession more effectively, surely Mendy must play? He’s the closest to a Kante that we’ve got - let’s use him!

It's now at the stage where everything is so tight that a single point or even a single goal could decide who goes down and who stays up.

I have to say though that the Everton game was a setback for me, both in terms of the result and the performance. We lost the second half. We had the aforementioned huge number of shots against. Iversen made some great saves. And so on.

At the moment I struggle to see us winning another game this season, and two draws max versus Fulham and West Ham won't be enough. I hope the team proves me wrong.

There’s a lot of good sense in this thread, in fact in others, too. But I’ve reached the point that I did in so many other shit seasons, where logic goes out of the window that the late Ted Moult installed, and I just have to pray for some kind of higher intervention. If not God, or the devil’s cheating, or from the sheer incompetence of David Coote and those twats at Stockley Park, then from the ghosts of our past, that blue light at the end of Jock Wallace’s dock. On Monday, on every Monday till the final Sunday, our boys will run faster, and crane their necks further, and so we will beat on, boats against the current. And then one fine late May Monday morning....well.

People say that it’s in our hands. It’s not in our hands, it’s in the hands of a crew of blue shirted mercenaries who, in the main don’t give a toss.
It’s not the technical skill at this late hour, it’s heart and want that will get you out of it.
There’s probably more of that at Forest and Everton unfortunately.

Absolutely spot on.
But this has been a feature of the team for the last four years.
Every time they’d needed to get across the line, or that extra grit, they’d failed (FA cup apart)
It’s so evident, the difference in the Leicester and Everton players movement and body language

If you are led by a fraud who holds no positivity you yourself will get into that mind set. One job of a manager is motivation, does anyone think Rodgers ever motivated anyone.

You see players who will run through walls for their manager and team, no one as ever done that with TCR have they !

l think we can see a little bit of effort coming back. We won the league because we squeezed an extra 5% out of everything, you start with being the fittest team that you can be, I'd say our squad isn't and wasn't fit enough, then you go on. We need fighters out there for the next 4.

agree on the manager point Bnet-just look at what Neil Warnock has managed to do at Huddersfield -kept them up!!

I'm not so sure about this. Under Rodgers it certainly appeared that way, but since Smith's arrival the team has become far more resilient. We've come from behind in three consecutive games to gain points, which wasn't happening under Rodgers. Smith was never going to eradicate all of our weaknesses in a few games, but I respectfully disagree with anybody who thinks he hasn't significantly improved the team spirit.

I agree with you Clappers, but feel that it’s too little too late. If we hadn’t have farted around for two games with tweedledum and tweedledee, it might have been a completely different mind set. I hope above hopes that I’m coming back to Lichfield Trent Valley with smug grin after having watched us take all three points from craven cottage.

I know I suggested recently that our emphasis has been on technical ablity at the expense of effort
but the fact is they are both necessary, not alternatives. We have better players all round than most of the others and
effort is free so that will be the edge we have.....
