Bataille de Waterloo

Even in 1815 Britains military strength remained with its Navy, maintaining large standing armies on the continent of Europe was never policy.

Wellesley's army was a coalition with brits making up around 40% of the numbers, large contribution from the Duch and smaller numbers from various Germanic states.

In addition the allies had a substantial Prussian Army under Blücher but that had been seriously roughed up by the French a few days earlier. Waterloo itself can be considered a 'holding' battle conducted by Wellesley's army whilst the Prussians reorganised and eventually provided the numbers to ensure victory.

BTW. Wellesley was an English Protestant, born in Dublin. He was never a 'paddy'.

That's all well and good but not many English fought in the battle and Wellington was still a Paddy 😀

Wellington was from Ireland, but he was not of Ireland.

He was part of Anglo-Irish aristocracy and an Imperialist.

The English were probably on their way back from the new world after having their arses handed to them on a plate. 😜
Hardly, the war of 1812 was to limit trade from the New World to Napoleonic France, which it did.

With the defeat of Napoleon the war was un-necessary so kind of fizzled out.

Well almost, the war of 1812 was about stopping the USA expanding into Canada which was in the main British territory. Together with a locally raised force and native tribes the British sent the USA packing.

That should have been the end of it ...But British forces attacked New York and Washington (with success) then it all went tits up when New Orleans was attacked. Attacking a well dug in force behind tall earth ramparts with many cannons the British force was decimated.
As Richardvanles said sailed home having been given their arses on a plate.

A battle that did not need to happen.... a treaty having been signed weeks before in Belgium, but never reached the British in time.

Well, not quite. After being repelled, the army was reinforced and had the capacity to take New Orleans, but decided against it as too costly. The army pivoted at Biloxi, took Fort Bowyer and was in a position to rampage through Alabama and Mississippi. They were freewheeling all along the southern coast and in a very favourable position. It's a shame there was no follow through.

So how many blacks took part in the battle after all there has to be a woke angle surely and is the BBC going to make a new drama about it with the required quota of disabled , blacks, gays and transgenders.
Napoleon could be played by a drag artist and Wellington a cross dressing lesbian, both armies could be all Africans armed with spears .

The Wellington army was British this anti English crap is pushed by low life's.

He's like that Aussie prick that used to post on the other forum. Think as pig shit.
I was just highlighting something that a lot of folk wasn't aware of. Same as the French didn't call it Waterloo. In fact the only reason it was called Waterloo is because that's where the Irish bloke set up his office and where his despatches were sent from. The letterheads were from Waterloo.
