Cricket

I woke at 3 and was awake till almost 4, I fell asleep waking again just gone 5. D’oh!!

It’s looking like a very good toss to have won. It’s a fascinating game as so many are. If we’re going to get the 600 - 700 runs that Rooooooooot says he wants we’ll need another’s one or two to get 70 -80.

Assuming we’re still batting late in the day, I think we’d usually be looking to declare this evening, but I think we’ll be happy to bat into tomorrow and see if the pitch deterioration will help us later in the game.
At the end of Day 1 Root said he wanted to bat into Day 3.

Sir Alistair's batting somewhat handier than his cheshire cat grinning punditry at 4 in the morning! A great pity, having got the live stuff back, that Channel 4 couldn't have spent more than 30 quid kitting out a small props cupboard instead of having a studio.
And grinning by a tiny deer he'd just shot I heard.

A fantastic start after some useful runs this morning. Can we get them all out for 350 and make then follow on? Has to be the target although I know the follow on is often not enforced in modern cricket.

Why are some of them wearing base layers with long sleeves? I wondered this yesterday when Bumrah was wearing similar.

Will we get him caught in the deep? We’ve been close to a couple that he just got enough on.

It’s risky batting for a test match with so much time left in the game.

You’ve got to feel for Leach who has had the treatment from Pant, but one false shot and there’s a catch for somebody.
Keep tossing it up!

Also a pretty decent win seeing as over half the first picks are having a rest from touring. Very unexperienced team.
I hold them in the highest regard after coming across to England last summer. I also feel sorry for them, apart from a week in Southampton they spent the rest of the month in that Hilton hotel and ground at Old Trafford!!

As for us, one more tonight and we’ll be set up we’ll to restrict them tomorrow hopefully by enough to be able to enforce the follow on.

They said on the TV that England may not enforce the follow on.

I know. It annoys me. I know the pitch will deteriorate more but when you have them on the ropes go for the jugular. You may win by an innings, you may need a quick 100 or so which in today’s modern cricket is possible.

Bad drop that Archer. Toss him the ball and use that aggression to try and get a wicket.

Likewise, bubble cricket is bad for mental health and they were the first to put their hands up.

You would hope that the ECB return the favour bearing in mind the hole it got them out of and the financial difficulties inherent with the smaller Test nations.

Test cricket at its best . Like the way India opened with spinners before lunch with plenty of chat around the wicket . Going to be a very interestng days play .
