Pints before a game at Filbert Street…

The Black Boy did a great pint of Bass too (and a decent c & o cob - but not in the epic Blue Boar league). Both great boozers, sadly no longer with us; like so many city centre hostelries alas.

I was referencing my earlier post about The Magazine me auld segotia. I’m very well aware the Blue Boar 🐗 is extant and a fine boozer it is too.

What was the name of the bar along the canal, corner of Eastern Boulevard and Mill Lane ?
You went in at street level, and there was also a downstairs bar.

Yes Snooty, you are correct.
I didn’t know it was still open, the entrance used to be on the corner, but it has been moved around the corner.
Does anyone still go in there ?
Has it always been called The Soar Point ?
Yep, always the Soar Point since becoming a pub under the ‘Scream’ brand as far as I know, joining the Loaded Dog, Dry Dock and Polar Bear serving the ‘student community’. I’m not sure if it was a pub before that but we did some work with them when they first opened, late 90s

Furnivals of Fleckney, remember the screw top lid on the little bottles as a kid that tore off your skin as you eagerly tried to open it…

I always remember 5 minutes to 3 (often a bit later) in The Turnstile on Saturdays in the late 70s, 80s & 90s knocking back a pint of Bass (might have been a Black Label on the odd occasion) after a game of crash and then fighting our way past the miserable Geordie bloke on the gate in the supporters club end…
Them were the bloody days my friends..
"Geordie bloke" was from the other side of the country Workington or Barrow i think, miserable is right though! In the 80s somebody kept banging on the supporters club gates even though kick off was half hour gone, eventually Charlie (miserable Geordie bloke) started to shout through the gates that he couldnt come in, after 10 minutes of this Charlie opened the gate to tell him once and for all that he wasnt coming in, Charlie came back up the stairs into the supporters club end with his glasses in pieces and was more miserable than normal just behind him came the chap that wanted to get in! Bloke had a season ticket but was late, went to the office to get in and they told him to go to the supporters club end to be let in. Was about half time and 2-3 coppers came and took a statement from the 2 of them, Charlie spent the rest of the game telling people that "he knew someone that would sort him out". Oh by the way the late supporter also had his young son with him!

Remember Charlie 😁

where was the Everard's Arms ?
The Everard Arms is to be found close to Corby town centre. Was always the pre match gathering place for local Leicester fans who travelled by coach to Filbert St, but not so much the new stadium. Back in the sixties it was Bartons Buses , replaced by N&S Coaches. We formed a Corby Leicester supporters club sometime after N&S stopped the service. Judges coaches filled the gap for a few years until we gave up. The Cardigan Arms pub in the older part of the town took over from the "Eves" as the departure point as well as hosting our supporters club meetings and events. Having two landlords who were huge City fans helped us along the way. The "Eves" remained a pick up point and is fondly remembered by a lot of us of the Leicester City persuasion in North Northants

We were sat in the New Town Arms when they switched over to the match just before kick off. Think we were playing Preston on a week night. "Ain't we supposed to be there?" Cue mad dash to the then Walkers Stadium.
