Cricket

When was the last time India were skittled by a part time spinner at home for a low score like that?
We can’t play spin full stop but this pitch is utter dog shit for a test match surface.
Nothing will happen though as the BCCI are bullet proof.

Not that busy if the Tests are only lasting a couple of days !
Ha ha - very true

Players love short matches which I never understand but at least they'll be happy

and as a bonus we don't have to listen to Boycott banging on about 4 day test matches

Might be interesting in the summer if England produce nice green pitches. Imagine England's pace attack on a nice green top at Trent Bridge, it would be carnage.

Maybe that is exactly what we need to do, it just might be enough to make the authorities think and do something.

To expand. I do not demand uniformity, sub continent wickets will favour spin, seam in England, Pace and bounce in Australia, all part of the game but the last 2 pitches have been a disgrace.

I agree about the pitches but some of England's dismissals were pathetic. Pope, for example, batted like it was a Sunday friendly and was invited by a mate. Bairstow is never a top order player in India and big shots across the line against spin are not a great plan.

The most competitive aspect of the whole farce is the question of whether England's cricket or Talkshite's commentary is worse.
I wanted to follow the game this morning and so, against all better judgement, tuned in just as there was an appeal. The so-called expert team managed to pass the next 3 or 4 minutes of the whole review process, and the dismissal confirmation, and the new batsman coming out, without a single mention of who the batsman was, what the score was, or anything about the state of the game. They even got the nature of the appeal wrong.
I used to think Mark Nicholas was a pleasant-enough avuncular anchorman; as a radio commentator, he's fucking useless – along with whatever other clown was being paid for nothing of any use.
Off it went.

It's psychological.

On pitches like that you know that, however well you play, you are going to get out. Makes concentration and trying to play properly a joke.

Have a swing, it doesn't matter.

And the next one is hardly going to be any better. Was it covered by a mat as part of the preparation to protect it from some wear? I don’t think so.

Based on your comments the other day I was looking at the square and I could not see any protective mats.
Mind you blink and I would have missed the 3rd test ;)

I agree, I’ve got no problem with the home country preparing a wicket that gives them some kind of home advantage ie spinners coming to the fore on days 3/4/5 in India/Sri Lanka etc and pace and carry for the Aussies at the Gabba but Joe Root having a spell of 3 for 0 in India is frankly bonkers.
Also, Graeme Swann sucking hard on the BCCI teat was nauseating, fucking turncoat.

Also, the only players to hit a six were Ishant and Leach. Brutal.

When a world cup is hosted, I think I'm right in saying that the ICC take control of pitch preparation. Maybe it's time that happened in test matches. Given that the Indians now have three extra days to work on the pitch for the next match they might well decide to try and produce a road. Having said all that, our batting was pretty abysmal.

Leach hit one straight, yes and the one to finish by Gill 🤦🏻‍♂️

England can’t moan about this. They’ve played India here on green tops in May with the Duke ball and everyones lapped it up.

They picked a seam attack in India after the groundsman produced a turner in the last test. What did they expect? They then won the toss and batted first and got battered.

Then everyone moans about the pitch when the team selection has been shit.

In the meantime the vast majority of county cricket is shoved to the margins and we wonder why they can’t play spin.

The pitch was poor but we needed more than one spinner. We shouldn’t have let Ali fly home.

As he’s picked for an IPL team I’d have thought he’d want to stay and get some more experience of bowling on these Indian wickets.

Still we did bowl them out cheaply so not all’s lost for the final test.

He was due time home and it was all contracted. The management saying he chose to go home was nonsense.
I know it was contracted Bills and arranged, I still think if I was him I’d have said I wanted to stay and play. If I was on the management I would have said something to him too. Tried to negotiate with him.

I don’t know but I guess he’ll be back out there for the one dayers?

Last season, this season – and probably next season – seem to be all about keeping latched onto the tit of TV money, regardless of what happens on the field.
I wouldn't want to be playing cricket whilst being 'stuck in a bubble', and think they're making a better fist of it than we could have reasonably expected.
Roll on 2023...

not sure the TV companies will be quite so keen to bid if they're paying a '5 day' price for 2 days of action...

Agreed. And it only fuels the shift towards 4 day tests, which will kill the best of test cricket – ie 5 day thrillers

Makes a change to see India start with 2 pace bowlers .
How long before the spinners come on and the wickets start to tumble .
As I speak , Patel comes on and Sibley gone !!!

Another solid base provided by the openers....
No pitch demons can be blamed for those two “shots” and then the skip gets pinned in front.
Dig in boys!

Stokes brings up his 50 with a nice reverse sweep to go with his 2 sixes and 6 fours, showing you can get runs on this wicket.
Carry on like this and we may see some cricket at the weekend.

What's happened to the crowd ?
There was over 50,000 both days for the last test.
Can't be more than 500 in there so far today.
Did they know England would be batting first ?
